Vitamin D3 is essential for the proper functioning of the body. Both its excess and its deficiency lead to organ dysfunction. Cholecalciferol is one of the forms of vitamin D3, it is a fat-soluble chemical compound, its synthesis takes place not only in the human, but also in animals. How should Cholecalciferol be dosed? Are there any contraindications to the use of the drug? What does the dosage look like?
The main task of Cholecalciferol is to regulate the body’s calcium and phosphate metabolism. The agent primarily facilitates the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the intestines, it is also responsible for the proper bone mineralization. What does the correct supplementation look like? Can the remedy have side effects?
Cholecalciferol – application
Cholecalciferol is vitamin D3, which is formed in human skin as a result of the action of UV rays. In the next step, the compound in the kidneys and liver is converted into its active form, i.e. 1,25-dihydroxycholecalciferol. In this form, the compound is responsible for the homeostasis of phosphate and calcium ions.
Cholecalciferol is a compound that supports the proper functioning of the entire body. Vitamin D3 has a positive effect on:
- The correct course of the calcium absorption process
- For the work of all muscles
- Supports the proper functioning of the immune system
- Maintains healthy teeth and skeletal system
Cholecalciferol can be produced by the human body, the whole process takes place on the surface of the epidermis, which is exposed to sunlight. You should know that in order to take the right dose of the vitamin to be correct and effective, the skin should be exposed to UV rays for several minutes a day without the use of a protective cream. In autumn and winter, the supply of cholecalciferol to the body is much more difficult, therefore it is necessary to appropriate supplementation combined with a properly balanced diet.
Cholecalciferol should be taken especially in the case of:
- Hypocalcemic tetany
- For the prevention of malabsorption
- With diagnosed osteoporosis
- In the prevention and treatment of vitamin D3 deficiency
- In rickets, bone diseases, metabolic basis
Cholecalciferol – precautions
Cholecalciferol should not be taken by people who are allergic, hypersensitive to any of the ingredients of the preparation. Possible undesirable effects should be observed if Cholecalciferol is combined with other antacids containing magnesium. Cholecalciferol should not be used together with thiazides as hypercalcaemia may occur. You should also avoid glucocorticosteroids, which can significantly reduce the effect of vitamin D3.
The side effects that may occur while taking the preparation are: headache, muscle flaccidity, disorder, kidney disorders, iritis, increased blood pressure, progressive weight loss, psychotic disorders, increased potassium loss, the appearance of calcifications in soft tissues, proteinuria , cholestatic jaundice. An overdose may occur, which may appear as: anorexia, constipation, anxiety, intestinal colic, polyuria.
