Cholamide for gallbladder dysfunction. How to use?

Cholamide is a choleretic drug used in gallbladder disorders. The active substance of the preparation is nicotinic acid hydroxymethylamide, which increases the circulation of bile and has a relaxing effect on the gall bladder and bile ducts. The drug is in the form of tablets to be taken by mouth and is available without a prescription.

Cholamide – indications and dosage

Cholamide is a drug recommended for cholagogue in gallbladder dysfunction.

Dosage

Cholamide is in the form of tablets and is intended for oral administration. The drug should be taken after meals and do not exceed the recommended dose. The treatment time with the preparation is usually about 10 days.

  1. initially 1 g (2 tablets) 3 × / d,
  2. after improving 0,5 g (1 tablet) 3 × / day.

Cholamide and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Cholamid are:

  1. allergy to nicotinic acid and its derivatives (formaldehyde or any component of the preparation),
  2. mechanical and cholestatic jaundice.

Cholamide – warnings

  1. Patients with cholelithiasis should be especially careful as secondary damage to the liver or pancreas may occur as a result of increased pressure in the bile ducts due to the choleretic effect of the drug. The use of the preparation in this group of patients should be consulted with a doctor.
  2. It is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women to take the drug.

Cholamide with other drugs

  1. Mutual potentiation of the effect of the drug taken in acute bacterial inflammation has been shown together with the following antibiotics: chloromycetin, chloramphenicol, streptomycin, penicillin, and oxytetracycline.
  2. The use of the drug simultaneously with antispasmodics: papaverine and the dry extract of the wolfberry hives, reduces pain in the area of ​​the gallbladder and facilitates the drainage of bile.

Cholamide – side effects

While taking Cholamid, the following may occur:

  1. gastrointestinal complaints,
  2. worsening of inflammation and spasms of the bile ducts and liver damage (especially in the case of long-term use of the drug and obstructed outflow of bile).
