A colleague brought a bright flowered train to the office, and the boss has been using impossibly stuffy perfume for a month now? Show them the rules for using fragrances in the office.
“Perfume notifies about the appearance of a woman and continues to remind of her when she left …” – this is a favorite phrase of Coco Chanel. But what do we do when we work in a confined space and are surrounded by human courage? If the appearance of every woman is announced by her perfume, then the office will be more like a perfume boutique.
In perfumery, as well as in clothing, you can deduce a kind of “dress code”. And if everything is quite simple with clothes (you can set restrictions on color and length), then in fragrances you should rather talk about ingredients in perfume compositions that are best avoided when choosing them for the office.
Intense floral
When going to the office, you should exclude aromas with notes of tuberose, gardenia, ylang-ylang, jasmine. These flowers have a heavy and even slightly intoxicating scent. They bloom exclusively at night. They attract insects with their aroma and have a relaxing effect on the nervous system and lower blood pressure. A prominent representative of this kind of fragrances is Poison Christian Dior. After the release of the fragrance in 1985, signs appeared in many Parisian restaurants: “No Smoking and No Poison.” The perfume had such a rich scent and sillage that it overshadowed the smell of food and spices. It will be extremely difficult to tune in to a working mood with them. And getting rid of a long train is even more difficult. But such aromas will be quite appropriate for outdoor events. They will definitely draw attention to you and collect many compliments.
kitchen herbs
In the East, spices were included in the composition of incense and were used to flavor and purify space. Spices have a warming and stimulating effect. It is extremely difficult to be in a harmonious working condition in spicy aromas. And it will be even more difficult for your colleagues because of the powerful loop hovering throughout the office. But it is good to walk in them in cold dank weather.
Animalistic
These are fragrances with a very tangible animalic composition – musk, civet, castoreum. Previously, these elements were mined from the gonads of animals. Now they have learned to synthesize artificially. However, the general direction of scents with these ingredients remains the same – to attract the opposite sex. It is possible that these scents can play a decisive role at a corporate party or in a nightclub. However, in an enclosed space with many people of different genders, the effect can be quite the opposite.
Sweet, gourmet
They contain a large amount of vanilla, chocolate, caramel, honey and other sweets. In the office, they will inspire thoughts of coffee breaks and social gatherings. This is where these scents should be worn – for cute bachelorette parties, meetings in cafes and unhurried weekends.
What scents to use in the office? Androgynous – without an explicit reference to the masculine or feminine principle, without a strong trail and without excessive stamina. Firstly, you will not have time to tire your colleagues with your fragrance. And secondly, after the office, you can always choose a heavier perfume artillery. The daytime aroma will have had time to subside by that time.
Citrus
Aromas with notes of lemons, tangerines, grapefruit, neroli. They help to wake up, invigorate during the day and create an optimistic mood.
Aldehyde
Aldehydes are synthetic components. They give the compositions an aroma of cleanliness and freshness and resemble the smell of clean linen brought from the frosty air. What’s better than a fresh head at work?
Green
Aromas with notes of freshly cut grass, green leaves of various plants and trees, galbanum, wormwood and herbs.
They fill with energy, relieve a nervous-depressive state. And they help to tune in to a working mood.
