Three scientists from ETH Zurich and the FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts in northwestern Switzerland intend to patent the process of making an unusual chocolate that shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow, says Joinfo.com.
The story of the shimmering rainbow chocolate began in the hallways of the university building when culinary scientist Patrick Rue, materials specialist Etienne Jeffroy, and physicist Henning Galinsky began chatting about chocolate during a coffee break.
They thought, is it possible to abandon the usual brown and white colors and make the chocolate shimmer like a rainbow? Employees of the Swiss university began to carry out playful experiments in their free time, applying various coatings to pieces of chocolate. Of course, there were some failures. For example, at first, experts covered the treat with edible coatings of gold and titanium oxide, but alas – the result was beautiful, but the production of shimmery chocolate itself turned out to be too complicated and impractical.
It was then that materials scientist Anita Zing joined Patrick, Etienne and Henning, with whom the scientists developed a completely different technique – they abandoned coatings and changed the structure of the chocolate surface itself, which gave the effect of multi-colored shimmer.
Scientists have already figured out a way to print more than one chocolate at a time and are in talks with chocolate companies to bring the shimmery shades to market sooner.
Recall that earlier we talked about new facts of the influence of dark chocolate, hitherto unknown, and also shared recipes for our favorite winter drink – hot chocolate.
