Indications for use of the drug Cloranxen

The active ingredient in Cloranxen is klorazepan, a psychotropic benzodiazepine drug. The drug is used in the short-term treatment of anxiety and anxiety states, as an ad hoc supportive in the course of neurosis and alcohol abstinence syndrome (alcohol delirium, conditions preceding delirium). Pharmacological treatment with Cloranxen is indicated only in situations where the symptoms are severe, impair proper functioning or are inconvenient for the patient.

Dosage of Cloranxen:

  1. Adults: usually 5-30 mg / day 1x / day, in the evening; the usual starting dose is 5 mg / day, the maximum dose is 30 mg / day.
  2. Children and adolescents – in exceptional cases in children over 12 years of age: 0,5 mg / kg body weight / day in divided doses.

Cloranxen and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Cloranxen are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients or other benzodiazepines,
  2. muscle tiredness (myasthenia gravis),
  3. severe respiratory failure,
  4. sleep apnea syndrome,
  5. severe liver failure,
  6. angle-closure glaucoma,
  7. the preparation should not be used in children and adolescents under 12 years of age.

Cloranxen – warnings

  1. Cloranxen should be used with caution in people with porphyria, due to the risk of worsening of the disease, and in people with glaucoma, especially angle-closure, cerebellar or spinal ataxia, and myasthenia gravis.
  2. You should not stop taking Cloranxen abruptly because of the possibility of the so-called “withdrawal syndrome” (headache, muscle pain, severe anxiety, tension, anxiety, confusion and irritability, and in severe cases also: feeling unrealistic, depersonalisation, auditory hyperalgesia, pins and needles in the extremities, sensitivity to light, noise and physical contact, hallucinations or seizures).
  3. During the application, paradoxical reactions are occasionally observed: anxiety, irritability, aggressiveness, euphoria, agitation, hallucinations, insomnia, psychosis, and inappropriate behavior.
  4. Drugs from this group should not be used in patients with psychosis.
  5. Your doctor may need to adjust the dose of the drug in the elderly and in people with renal insufficiency.
  6. Encephalopathy may occur in patients with hepatic insufficiency, the use of benzodiazepines.
  7. In patients with respiratory failure, Cloranxen should be used with caution as it may inhibit the respiratory center.
  8. Patients with hereditary galactose intolerance, primary lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use the preparation because it contains lactose.
  9. During treatment with Cloranxen, the ability to drive and use machines may be limited. Impaired concentration, drowsiness and amnesia may occur.
  10. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take Cloranxen.
