Changing the volume and relief of the chin in surgery is called mentoplasty. It has several methods for performing the procedure. One of them is called lipofilling of the chin – an increase in volume due to the transplantation of adipose tissue.
What is lipofilling?
Lipofilling is a surgical procedure used in plastic surgery. This procedure is as follows: adipose tissue is taken from one part of the body and injected into another to achieve an increase in volume.
Mentoplasty is no exception, it is the same procedure, only it is one of the areas of lipofilling. Here, adipose tissue is injected precisely into the chin area, which makes it possible to correct its volume and relief.
A little more about the procedure itself. To achieve the goal, autotransplantation of adipose tissue is performed. What does this mean? Adipose tissue is taken from the fatty tissue of the abdomen or thighs with a special syringe, after which it is implanted in the area of the body that needs to be corrected. In this case, the chin area is described, respectively, and adipose tissue is injected there.
Indications and contraindications for the procedure
The main indication for lipofilling is the very desire of the client. In addition, there is a list of medical and cosmetic indications for this procedure. Such indications include the distortion of the proportions of the chin, the difference in the relief and size of the parts of the chin in relation to other parts of the face, the underdevelopment of the tissues of the chin.
The list of indications also includes congenital pathology, since in this case there are very few soft tissues in the chin area, which leads to a decrease in this area of the body in relation to others. Past injuries of the jaw, which led to the deformation and asymmetry of the chin, age-related deformation of the soft tissues of the lower face and chin, various defects in the chin area will also become a reason to go for the procedure. These defects are both congenital and acquired after infection.
Actually, one of the indications is the patient’s personal desire to make changes in the size or relief of the chin, even in the absence of visible deviations.
This wish under any circumstances is taken into account by the doctor. Together with the patient, they create a 3D model of the desired result. The procedure for lipofilling of the chin is less traumatic, but it is still surgical, as the skin is broken and painkillers are used.
Therefore, this surgical intervention has some contraindications. The surgeon must identify the existence of contraindications for lipofilling in the patient at the time of preparation. The patient must pass several mandatory tests and consult a therapist.
The sequence of lipofilling technology
Each patient must study the following procedure for lipofilling:
- Preliminary consultation with a doctor with the definition of tasks for performing lipofilling of the chin. If necessary, at this stage the doctor can offer 3D modeling with the result of the future procedure displayed on the screen.
- The preparatory stage is the stage of the study of the patient. Before the procedure, all patients are examined to identify the presence of contraindications, if any. After receiving the results, the patient is obliged to consult a therapist who can give an accurate interpretation of the test results.
- The involvement of anesthesia directly depends on the volume of pumped adipose tissue, most often local anesthesia is performed, general anesthesia is much less common.
- Taking adipose tissue – tissue is taken with a syringe, which has a special cannula needle, it has a rounded end. This helps prevent damage to nerve endings and blood vessels at the time of its introduction.
- Preparation of adipose tissue – centrifugation is performed for non-viable cells – tissues are cleaned of blood, residues of painkillers that got into the tissue at the time of local anesthesia.
- Introduction of the required volume of adipose tissue directly into the subcutaneous tissue of the chin. At the time of insertion, the doctor closely monitors the amount of injected fat so that subsequent asymmetry of the chin does not develop.
- Rehabilitation – this stage is not long, and depends on the more voluminous surgical implants. During this period, the patient at home fulfills special wishes for the care of the skin.
Rehabilitation period
Recovery and rehabilitation in terms depends on the volume of the procedure, usually recovery takes up to two weeks. In order to avoid complications, pronounced edema, bruising in places where adipose tissue was injected, poor survival during this period, it is necessary to follow the doctor’s recommendations.
Fatty and fried foods, as well as a large amount of carbohydrates, are prohibited from entering the patient’s body. Preference is given to plant-based nutrition, which is rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber.
One of the important rules is to give up any addictions, since alcohol and nicotine greatly impair the regeneration of implanted adipose tissue.
During the first day, you can take anti-inflammatory drugs, this is the case if there are manifestations of discomfort and discomfort at the site of the operation. To restore the skin of the face, it is necessary to apply cold compresses in the first days after the procedure. And to reduce puffiness, cosmetics are not recommended to be used for at least a few weeks. Even at this time, it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight on the skin of the face and visits to baths and saunas.
Duration of effect and possible complications
The duration of the effect after lipofilling is performed depends on the scale of the operation, mainly the effect lasts for several years. Over time, fatty tissue can dissolve, which will lead to a decrease in the volume of the chin.
Possible complications and consequences after lipofilling of the chin – since there is a slight trauma to the tissues, this can cause considerable swelling, the appearance of a liquid part of the blood in the tissues, there may be pain with a pronounced character, but the duration of such pain should not exceed two days.
There is a possibility of infection of the skin puncture site, a hematoma may appear and appear as a bruise. It is also possible that the asymmetry of the chin can become a consequence of the procedure. This is due to the fact that the introduction of adipose tissue occurs unevenly.
The doctor is obliged to immediately warn about any possible exacerbations and consequences even before the start of the lipofilling procedure. As a result, lipofilling of the chin is a practically non-traumatic and very effective procedure with a long-term unchanged result. The main thing is that nothing alien is implanted, therefore, the risks of rejection are excluded.
