Chimney for a geyser: how to make a hood

In an apartment, in a private house, in a country house – wherever a gas main is laid, installing a column is the best solution for supplying hot water. But you can not do without the proper organization of the removal of combustion products. What should be the chimney for the gas column? The most important criteria are quality, reliability, durability. Consider what chimneys are, as well as the features of their installation.

Varieties of chimney

The choice of a suitable pipe depends on the principle of operation of the column. They are divided into two types:

  • With an open combustion chamber (atmospheric). Combustion is supported by the natural pressure of the air taken from the room. Therefore, ventilation is important here.
  • With closed chamber. These are turbocharged models, in which air is forcibly pumped by a fan.

Modern models are closed type. They are convenient to install both in apartments and in private homes. Such a device can be called chimneyless, since it requires the connection of one type of channel – coaxial. The design includes two pipes that are inserted one into the other.

The coaxial channel must be the same diameter as the column outlet, not less. The same selection criteria exist for closed-type equipment, only in this case the choice of materials and designs is greater:

  • Steel chimney. It consists of stainless steel pipes with a length of not more than 1,5 meters. It is used to organize a tap inside the house. Assumes no more than three bends during assembly;
  • double circuit sandwich. The design consists of two stainless steel pipes, which are located one inside the other. A layer of insulation is laid between them. Great for organizing in an unheated room when you need to avoid freezing. It also prevents condensation.
  • Brick, asbestos-cement, ceramic mines, which are embedded in the inner part of the wall;
  • Corrugated leads made of aluminum foil or stainless steel – exhaust pipes for connection to the mine.

Today on the market you can find steel structureswhich are covered with heat-resistant white enamel. This is an excellent solution for the internal arrangement of the chimney. It looks more aesthetically pleasing compared to galvanized.

Chimney system device

Components of the design that you will need during installation:

  • Umbrella – upper protection against foreign elements entering the hole;
  • Chimney pipe;
  • The branch pipe is an insulating element;
  • Mounting brackets;
  • Connecting elements – clamps;
  • Tee – allows you to go from the column body to the hood;
  • Control window (hatch) – allows you to monitor the state of the mine;
  • Collector for condensate.

Which is better to choose

Many apartment dwellers choose the cheapest option – corrugated aluminum pipe. They are easy to install, they bend in any direction. However, they are quite dangerous. Aluminum can burn out at any time, and carbon monoxide poisoning can be fatal.

It is safer to connect a stainless steel outlet. Purchase and assembly will cost more than corrugation, but you will sleep peacefully, because this design is reliable and durable.

During the construction of a private house, a chimney is immediately laid. The shaft is laid out with bricks, in order to avoid the accumulation of condensate, an asbestos pipe is installed inside. Moreover, separate smoke exhaust systems are provided for the column and the boiler.

Another option for the home is an outdoor steel chimney. It is insulated inside, easy to install and effective. If you bought a house without a hood and a solid shaft, then this will suit you.

The outer structure is equipped with a pocket with a steel tap to collect condensate.

Things to consider:

  • The height of the outlet channel must be at least 4,5 meters. It is important that the entire hole is of the same diameter, without narrowing, otherwise there will be poor traction;
  • The diameter according to the standard is 11-13 centimeters. It is selected individually depending on the model of the device;
  • Climatic conditions. The selection of construction and materials that will be resistant to cold and heat depends on this criterion;
  • The chimney must rise above the roof of the house by at least 1 meter.

Installation requirements

It is important to adhere to SNiP so as not to get a fine and a plug on the gas line. The norms are valid for any columns “Neva”, “Oasis” and other brands. What are the general rules to follow?

  • The device must be completely sealed to avoid leakage;
  • Construction materials must be resistant to temperature extremes, precipitation;
  • It is necessary to firmly fix all the elements, to prevent sagging;
  • The optimal diameter is observed along the entire length, which will allow you to create normal traction. For less accumulation of soot and efficient operation, smooth pipes are installed;
  • Installation is carried out strictly vertically.

Installation work

Benefits of proper installation:

  • High-quality and safe smoke removal;
  • Improving the efficiency of equipment;
  • Protection against accident and leakage.

Work process:

  • The pipe is being installed into the wall. After that, the structure is connected to the column and brought to the branch pipe for output to the street. All slots and joints are insulated with sealant;
  • A chimney is mounted on the outer wall. All connections are fixed with clamps;
  • In order for the device to be even and stable, it is additionally fixed with brackets while maintaining a distance of 2 meters. It is important that there are no deflections in the system;
  • To avoid clogging the system, a protective umbrella is installed on top;
  • Below you need to organize a window for the revision of the state of the chimney.

As soon as the work is completed, check the traction force. To do this, bring a burning match to the ventilation or chimney opening. If the flame is deflected, then there is thrust.

Why is the system not working?

Possible problems in the operation of the chimney and the reasons for their occurrence:

  • Burnout: improper installation, use of low-quality materials;
  • Soot fire: improper operation of the equipment, non-compliance with the instructions;
  • A large amount of condensate: poor insulation of the system.

In the organization and installation of gas equipment, everything should be clear. You can turn to specialists – now you know how to control their work.
