Children’s room design for a teenager: a few tips

Practical advice – how to decorate a teenager’s room painlessly for both the child and you.

Design of a children’s room for a teenager

It is advisable to paint a teenager’s room on the eve of the school year, so you together create the right mood and, of course, get a great opportunity to communicate.

Practical advice

1. Paint the walls… The easiest way to freshen up the interior of a room is to simply repaint the walls, while avoiding dark gloomy tones. Light pastel colors visually enlarge the room and create a calm, comfortable atmosphere.

2. “Special zone”… To make the teen’s room stand out, you can paint one of the walls in a rich, deep tone that contrasts with the rest of the walls. In this way, you will create a separate zone in the room, which can also stand out functionally: and how exactly – let the child himself determine. Maybe he will arrange a guest area against this wall – where there will be a small sofa, armchairs and a table, or maybe he will use it to display items from his home collection.

3. Harmony between objects… A teenager’s room usually accommodates a wide variety of furniture: a desk, a sofa bed, a TV bedside table, and a wardrobe … Therefore, special attention should be paid to ensuring that all these disparate elements are combined into a single, harmonious composition. When choosing furniture for a nursery, be sure to consider this fact. In addition, furnishings should also match the color of the walls.

4. Hobby… The walls of a nursery can become a source of pride for a teenager if they reflect the world of his hobbies. If your teen is into football, paint the walls in the colors of his favorite team, and if your child is into water sports, turn the room into a sea element. To enhance the effect, you can add the appropriate accessories, such as photo frames decorated with seashells, transparent vases with sand, a surfboard … Rock music fans can decorate the walls with posters of their favorite artist or even translate the image on the wall with their own hands, tracing the portrait on the wall using a projector. In case of failure of the conceived, return to point 1.

5. Final touch… Additional color accents will add personality to the room. You can frame a frame around the window, about 25 cm wide, which will be in harmony with furniture, flooring or “colored wall”. Barcode strokes can be applied to a free wall. For the same purpose, you can use special appliques for walls – they are easy to stick on and just as easy to remove – so, if you wish, you can change them once a season, depending on your mood

6. Smile! The best recommendation for creating a nursery with a pleasant and calm microclimate is to create an interior with your child in peace and harmony. Choose with him a color for the walls, a fun carpet or ottomans. Spend several hours in joint work, which unites and strengthens your connection, because this is how a teenager needs it now, even if he does not show it at all. Smile at each other, and the new interior of the room will always remind him of this and give him joy.
