On September 1, teachers are presented with a huge number of flowers. This is very nice, but always too much: not all teachers will be able to take home the bouquets. A year ago, a spontaneous flash mob “What if you don’t bring flowers that day, but transfer the amount equal to the cost of the bouquet to those who need it more?” supported several schools and teachers. This year the action “Children instead of flowers” is gaining momentum.
A year ago, the teacher of school No. 1553 “Lyceum on the Don” Asya Shtein, on her Facebook page, suggested organizing a September 500st flash mob. “The essence of the game is simple. A bouquet of flowers by the first of September costs at least a thousand in Moscow (well, somewhat cheaper in the provinces). At the same time, teachers, even if they love cut flowers, will take them home and arrange in the classrooms a maximum of a tenth of these bouquets. But there are those who are in dire need of these, in general, mediocrely spent money: sick children, disabled people, lonely old people, homeless animals! Why not transfer the amount that you planned to spend on a bouquet (1000 rubles, 200, even XNUMX) to one of the charitable foundations?
Nyuta Federmesser, President of the Vera Foundation, about the Children Instead of Flowers campaign
The Vera Hospice Assistance Fund offers to support the children of the Children’s Hospice – children who, unfortunately, will not be able to go to school, but for whom attention and care are very important. “It is these children who make us kinder, more honest, teach us to be real ourselves. The more attention we give to them, the more valuable and merciful our own children become. What matters to us is not how much we collect, but who takes part in the collection. These are teachers, parents and students – those who shape our future,” says Nyuta Federmesser, President of the Vera Foundation.

How is the promotion going?
Usually parents decide to give one bouquet from the class, or each of the students gives one flower to collect one big bouquet. The rest of the money goes into the donation box. Employees of the Children’s Hospice are ready to conduct “Lessons of kindness” in schools, where students can ask them any questions – about who needs help, why, what is the meaning of help and what it can be. “Children can write a postcard or a letter for a child from the Children’s Hospice. Our patients will be very pleased with this,” adds Nyuta Federmesser.
What are the funds raised for?
Every month, seriously ill children need expensive equipment, supplies, care products, help from a nurse and a nanny. That is what the funds raised will go to. The Vera Foundation supports almost 300 families with terminally ill children in Moscow and the Moscow region, and another 150 families throughout Russia. Unfortunately, now they receive practically no help from the state, and help depends on each of us. You can raise funds in general to help children, or you can agree to help a specific child (who, for example, lives in your city or even district).
Everyone’s personal choice
The action “Children instead of flowers” every year causes a storm of emotions and even controversy. Someone supports, someone criticizes. Important: this action is a personal choice of each of us. No one aims to take flowers from teachers or force people to give to charity. In addition, it is possible to support those who are seriously ill not only on the first of September.
