— Many children have been quarantined or infected with the virus in recent weeksas schools and kindergartens are now the main sites of new infection outbreaks. If one person is sick in a class, there is a good chance that they have infected at least one or two others with the virus. If we do not detect such an infection quickly, more people may spread the virus in society without even realizing it. — said Dr. Danuta Gmyrek, head of the children’s hospital ward in Kędzierzyn-Koźle in an interview with the nto.pl website.
As Dr. Gmyrek explains, the situation is very serious. — Children have a very high fever, have pneumonia, and in addition to respiratory symptoms, there are also gastrointestinal symptoms — says the doctor.
Currently, eight out of 15 beds are occupied in the pediatric department of Kozielsk. However, there were situations when there was a shortage of places and you had to look for them in other institutions.
— We admit new patients all the time, and we write out people who feel better. While in the first waves of the pandemic sick children requiring hospitalization were isolated cases, now it is a real plague – emphasizes the head of the doctor.
