Cons of late motherhood
Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to late motherhood, and they are primarily associated with the biological characteristics of our species. Let’s take a closer look at them.
Decreased fertility after 30 years… Fertility is a whole complex, which includes the ability to get pregnant, bear safely and give birth to a healthy baby. Objectively, women over 35–40 years old have a significantly higher percentage of unfavorable outcomes, ranging from the loss of a child in the early stages due to genetic defects in the embryo and ending with a complicated course of pregnancy, which leads to the birth of less healthy children.
Acceleration of the biological clock… The supply of eggs (ovarian reserve) is assigned to us at birth, and its quality is influenced by all the events that happen to a woman throughout her life. Diseases, medications, bad habits (smoking and obesity), surgical interventions on the reproductive organs – all this affects the quality and quantity of the reserve.
Even eggs capable of fertilization have problems with division, which leads to disruptions and inability to develop into a healthy body. The rate of decline in fertility is growing exponentially: if at the age of 30 there are no particular difficulties, then after 42–43 years the chances of success to get pregnant and give birth tend to zero.
Deterioration in general health… It is important to emphasize that much depends on the lifestyle, but in general, the older the woman, the more problems accumulate (excess weight, arterial hypertension, previous infectious diseases of the reproductive system – herpes, chlamydia, HPV, which trigger a whole range of problems). In addition, with age, the likelihood of developing tumor diseases that require complex treatment increases.
Physical and psychological unwillingness to change… By adulthood, a person develops a habitual lifestyle, which becomes more and more difficult to change over the years. For some, serious problems are associated with physical changes: the uterus grows, presses on internal organs, there are difficulties with urination, constipation, legs hurt, sleep worsens. What is easily tolerated at 20 is much more difficult to endure at 35.
