Is it dangerous for the baby?
I noticed that my 2-year-old son gains air while sleeping and only starts to breathe after a while. This takes about 5-7 seconds. I don’t know exactly how many times a night this happens, but during the after-dinner nap (2 hours) it happens 2 or 3 times. What am I supposed to do next? Is it dangerous? Can any tests be done to diagnose the cause of these apnea? – Monika
It is very important for a 2 year old child to have restful, regular breathing during sleep. During this time, the child is teething and learning to speak. Malocclusion and speech disorders may appear. But also ENT problems: recurrent respiratory infections, with constant swelling of the nasal mucosa or adenoid hypertrophy.
An ENT consultation would be a good idea. Longer apneas, over 15 seconds, require a neurologist’s consultation
