Child’s eyes turn sour: why, reasons and what to do
If a child’s eyes turn sour, a consultation with a doctor is necessary. And although this condition is very common among preschool children, it can indicate serious eye pathologies.
Reasons why babies’ eyes turn sour
Eye problems in childhood can appear for a variety of reasons. Usually, symptoms of a pathological condition are observed in the morning. During the night, pus accumulates in the eye area, so they turn sour.
This can happen with such diseases:
- Conjunctivitis. The disease develops due to the ingestion of various infections in the body, as a result of allergies or inflammatory diseases. In addition to acidification of the eyes, the child’s body temperature rises. With viral conjunctivitis, the mucous membranes of the visual organs may turn red.
- Dacryocystitis. This is a rare pathology that occurs in the first days of a baby’s life. It occurs due to blockage of the lacrimal canal with remnants of embryonic tissue. The disease is accompanied by redness, swelling of the eyelids, and purulent discharge from the eyes.
- Cold. ARI or ARVI appear as a result of a viral infection entering the body. And she can easily switch to the child’s organs of vision. Therefore, a cold rarely proceeds without souring eyes and without lacrimation.
- Adenovirus infection. There is a discharge of dark green mucus from the nose, sore throat, fever. The respiratory and eye organs are affected.
Treatment of preschool children should be carried out under the strict supervision of a physician. After all, only a doctor can determine why the eyes began to turn sour.
What to do to relieve symptoms
Eye drops that are appropriate for the child’s age are usually used to treat acidity. In addition, depending on the disease that caused the symptom, one or another drug is used. Therefore, before their appointment, the doctor examines the baby, conducts the necessary diagnostic tests.
If the disease is of a viral nature, antiseptic solutions for rinsing the eyes will help. For the treatment of bacterial pathology, antibacterial ointments and creams should be used.
When souring eyes in infants, weak herbal decoctions are used for washing. The use of antibiotics is undesirable, as it can lead to a decrease in children’s immunity.
Sour eyes in children should be treated by a pediatrician or ENT. The use of drugs on your own is not recommended.
