Child growth at 4 years old: WHO, the norm of boys, girls

The growth of a child at 4 years old, along with other indicators, testifies to his physical development, age and gender. In order to find out what should be the height at this age, you can use a specially developed formula or centile table.

What affects the growth of a child

Many factors affect the development and growth of a child. Therefore, it is imperative to take into account the individual characteristics, nationality, heredity and lifestyle of the preschooler.

The height of a child at 4 years old is measured exactly to the millimeter

There are 2 subgroups of factors affecting growth:

  • Genetic. In this case, the limit and growth rate of the baby should be taken into account. For example, if the parents are short, then the child will also be short. But under favorable conditions, he can grow taller than his parents. To do this, you need to organize proper nutrition, play sports, lead a healthy lifestyle, and there should be a favorable emotional atmosphere in the family.
  • External factors. The development of the child is negatively affected by negative influences during intrauterine life and negative interventions during childbirth. Developmental delays can be associated with poor nutrition, difficult and stressful relationships with parents and in the family.

These are the main indicators on which the normal development of the baby depends.

In medicine, there is a formula by which you can calculate the average height of a child. For children from 1 to 4 years old, it looks like this: 100 – 8 * (4 – B), where “B” is the number of full years. The result is a height in cm. For children over 4 years old, the following formula is used: 100 + 6 * (B-4). For example, if a boy is 4 years old, then his average height will be 100 cm.

Parents should carefully monitor the development of the child, if his height is much higher or lower than average, then this is a reason to contact an endocrinologist and pass the necessary tests.

Modern medicine has developed a special table that contains indicators of the growth of children depending on age.

According to the centile table, growth at 4 years can be:

  • 102 cm, which is average height;
  • 107 cm – above average;
  • 98,4 – below average.

All of these indicators are normal for girls at this age. If the child is below 94, 1 cm or higher than 111, 3 cm, then it is necessary to take appropriate measures: consult a specialist, undergo an examination or a course of treatment.

Watch the health of your children and stay healthy.
