Chewing gum: good or bad? Video
Chewing gum is a fairly popular and salable product. But is it so useful and safe for the human body, as the bright and colorful advertisement testifies to it?
Almost everyone chews chewing gum: both children and adults. Of course, it can improve bad breath, so it is often used after eating food, after smoking or drinking alcoholic beverages. A relatively small part of the population thinks about whether it is useful?
Commercials attribute a lot of advantages to chewing gum, which include improving tooth enamel, preventing dental diseases (caries, tartar), removing unpleasant odors, and restoring the acid-base balance in the oral cavity. But this is all dubious benefits, since even a child knows that various chemicals are added for the production of gum, which negatively affect the functioning of the body.
You should know that the composition contains about 20% of the rubber base and up to 60% of sugar, the remaining 20% are multiple dyes, flavors, flavor enhancers. The rubber base is rubber juice. But to reduce the cost of production, synthetic bases are often used.
Children’s types of chewing gum are especially dangerous. This is due to the fact that the composition includes styrene rubber or butadiene, which is used in the production of footwear, medical products, latex products. After a few minutes of chewing, a bitter taste appears, and the structure becomes quite tough.
For softening and easy chewing, special substances are added: glycerin, natural emulsifiers, antioxidants
The harmful effects of chewing gum
A large amount of sugar is a destructive sphere for the vital activity of bacteria, so the manufacturers are partly right that chewing gum can destroy bacteria. But there is another side – an increased content of calories, as a result of which metabolic processes are disrupted, extra pounds are formed.
The additional components included in the composition negatively affect the condition of the teeth and gums. This leads to the appearance of caries, periodontal disease, gingivitis. The presence of glycerin becomes the cause of the development of blood diseases, since it has a toxic effect when absorbed. Other substances increase cholesterol levels, disrupt the functioning of the digestive system. With constant chewing, a huge amount of saliva is released, which enters the stomach, stimulating the production of bile juice. The juice gradually accumulates in the gallbladder, which leads to the formation of stones.
Mindless and constant chewing is more like a reflex experience with Pavlov’s dog.
The danger of chewing gum lies not only in the composition, but also in the possible mechanical penetration into the body. Do not let the child go for a walk with chewing gum, as during the game it can get into the respiratory system, causing a feeling of suffocation.
