Cherry Zhukovskaya
Cherry variety “Zhukovskaya” was bred in the Michurin laboratory by S.V. Zhukov and E.N. Kharitonova. Obtained by crossing sweet cherries with wild varieties of cherries. The fruits have good taste, high transportability and retain their presentation for a long time.
Description of Zhukovskaya cherry and its advantages
The trees are of medium height, with a brownish-red trunk and branches. In spring, the garden is decorated with abundant flowering of snow-white fruit flowers. The leaves are dark green, large, round, with jagged edges. The fruit is a large dark red, almost black berry, very tasty, firm and does not spoil for a long time. The stone is small, easily separated from the pulp.
The plant has the following advantages over other varieties:
- The high resistance of the tree to diseases, which makes it more durable.
- Resistance of the crop to shedding, which allows it to be harvested not only by hand, but also by a mechanized method.
- High transportability of ripe product. This makes it possible to transport cherries over long distances.
All these qualities of the variety attract gardeners and make it popular for private gardening and for large farms.
Cherry “Zhukovskaya”: conditions of detention and care
The cherry variety is unpretentious and does not require special care. It is enough to choose a high-quality seedling with a developed root system and plant it in a lighted area. You will also need care rules:
- Cherry feels good where bird cherry, mountain ash, linden grow. It takes root well on the ground after legumes and cereals.
- The place should be sunny, cherry does not like shading by other trees or buildings. This will affect the future harvest.
- The plant is not suitable for the close location of groundwater. The landing site should not be swampy.
- The soil in the area where the tree will be planted should be close to neutral.
- The variety requires pollinating varieties to be nearby, since it itself is self-fertile.
The variety is quite high-yielding, you can collect up to 15 kg of berries from a middle-aged tree and up to 30 kg from an older plant. The first harvest is obtained in 4 years. Under favorable conditions, the tree lives for about 30 years. Withstands frost, but does not tolerate a harsh winter.
Cherry “Zhukovskaya” is suitable for growing both at home in the garden and in horticultural organizations. The plant bears fruit even with minimal maintenance. But under the right conditions, you can get a good harvest.
