Cherry syrup and cocktail with winter character

Many people have a bad habit of buying too many seasonal products. Here, for example, strawberries. Its season is very short and many prefer to stock up on it to the maximum – to make jams, liquors, tinctures. And it’s good when there is an opportunity and time, because the berry deteriorates very quickly. With cherries, things can be much more complicated. It happens that your favorite cherries in the garden give an incredibly large harvest – there is nowhere to put the jam, alcohol has run out on liquors, and you can intoxicate a couple of weddings with cherry wine. And there is still a little left in the bins, and it’s a pity to throw it away.

This is how recipes come about. We named this cocktail Cherry Slush because of its consistency – a typical Frosen cocktail. But the value of this recipe lies in rationality. The cocktail is prepared on the basis of cherry syrup, for the preparation of which you can use the remaining berries. It is stored for a whole month and even more, so you can pamper yourself with Cherry Slush for the whole summer and even longer (if you freeze the leftover cherries).

homemade cherry syrup

To prepare approximately 350 ml of syrup you will need:

  • 450 g fresh cherries;
  • 250 grams of sugar;
  • 3 strips of lime/lemon zest;
  • juice from 1 lime/lemon;
  • 350 ml water.

Wash cherries, remove pits. Place the pulp in a saucepan, add sugar.

And three lime/lemon strips.

Add the juice of one lime or lemon, water and cook over medium heat. You need to cook until the berries release their juice and the syrup starts to bubble. Usually 7-8 minutes is enough.

Let the syrup cool and strain it through a sieve.

Filter several times if necessary.

That’s it, the syrup is ready. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 month or longer.

Cherry slush in a blender

For 2 cocktails you will need:

  • 1200 g ice;
  • 250 ml of cherry juice (not sweet);
  • 60 ml of prepared syrup;
  • 80 ml ginger ale;
  • 90 ml of vodka;
  • juice of 1 lime/lemon;
  • cherry for decoration.

Put ice in the blender and add cherry juice, syrup, ginger ale (you can buy it or make it according to our recipe) to it and squeeze the juice from one lime or lemon.

Add vodka and beat well until a homogeneous foamy mass is formed.

Pour into two tall glasses, garnish with cherries and serve with a straw. The drink of summer with a winter character is ready.

Similar syrups can be cooked from almost any fruit and berries. We will try to publish such recipes more often, as we see in them the potential and benefit for our readers. In the meantime, we wish you bon appetit and good mood! 🙂
