Cherry baby: description
Cherry “Baby” is a dwarf tree, which is also called “Saratov baby”, as the plant is bred in the city of Saratov. Gardeners are attracted by the fact that it takes up little space in the garden. Cherries are very early, high-yielding, frost-hardy and disease-resistant.
“Saratovskaya Malyshka” is one of the best shrub varieties. It was bred by crossing a duke with an early cherry. The first harvest can be obtained already in the third year of the plant’s life.
Has a number of advantages over other varieties:
- The tree is short and compact, making it easy to harvest.
- The variety is one of the earliest, in mid-June the fruits are ready for consumption.
- The frost resistance of the plant makes it possible to plant cherries in the northern regions.
- The tree is rarely affected by disease.
- Produces good yields. Up to 25 kg of fruit can be harvested from one tree per year.
- The fruit has good taste, is large, dark red, the stone is easily separated. The berries are transportable, retain their presentation for a long time, but they easily crumble from the tree. Suitable for canning, freezing and fresh consumption.
Thanks to these qualities, cherries have proven themselves well among gardeners. The tree bears fruit well in a cherry orchard, as it is self-fertile.
Rules for planting and caring for Malyshka cherries
Cherries are planted in early spring or late autumn. Spring planting is more desirable, since a poorly hardened tree may not survive the winter. The following activities must be performed:
- It is important to choose the right seedling. Purchase planting material in proven places. Be sure to pay attention to the condition of the roots. They should be free of rot and damage.
- Choose a well-lit planting site.
- Prepare the soil – apply fertilizer and add sand to the hole for better aeration of the roots.
- After planting, thoroughly compact the soil around the seedling. The roots will stick more tightly to the ground and take root better.
In the future, there is no need for special care. The variety is not picky about moisture and is not afraid of severe frosts. Therefore, watering and shelter for the winter are not needed.
The plant is one of the first to bloom in the garden. And if the tree itself is cold-resistant enough, then for delicate fruit flowers the cold is destructive. In the spring, it is necessary to take measures to protect the plant from frost, otherwise the harvest can not wait.
