Cherry and cherry hybrid
The cherry hybrid has absorbed the positive qualities from the two crops. Ensure proper planting and care for it to produce a rich harvest.
A hybrid of cherry and sweet cherry was bred by chance in the XNUMXth century and received the name “duke”. In outward resemblance, he inherited more from the cherry. Its pulp is sweet and tender. It is not affected by cherry flies and is resistant to coccomycosis.
Some ducks bloom profusely, but do not produce a crop. They are used for decorative purposes. If you want to grow delicious berries, then pay attention to the following varieties:
- “Beauty of the North”. The fruits are large, light pink in color. Abundant fruiting. The hybrid is resistant to frost and disease.
- “Excellent Vinyaminova”. Fruits are rounded, red in color. Fruiting is average. Resistant to disease and frost.
- “Night”, “Ivanovna”, “Pivonya”. Fruits are large, burgundy. The pulp is sweet with sourness. Easily tolerates frost.
- “Miracle Cherry”. Fruits weighing up to 10 g, red. It is heavily pollinated. Poorly tolerates severe frosts.
- “Spunk”. The fruits are pink, the flesh is yellow. It is characterized by a very high yield. The variety is self-fertile.
All varieties take root easily in the middle lane.
Plant dykes next to cherries and cherries, as hybrids are weak pollinators for each other. In the middle lane for pollination they use varieties of cherries “Molodezhnaya”, “Bulatnikovskaya” and “Lyubskoy”, as well as cherries “Iput”. If the pollinators are selected correctly, then fruiting begins as early as the third year after planting.
How to plant cherry-cherry hybrids
The hybrid loves light. Choose a location that is sheltered from the wind. Hybrids also do not tolerate waterlogged soils. The distance between trees must be at least 5 m.
Duke needs a slightly acidic soil. So add some limestone to grow. If the soil is clayey, mix it with an equal amount of sand. Add organic fertilizers to the planting hole, but in a small amount. The root collar is left on the surface during planting.
In the fall, dig up the ground and mulch the ground near the trunk with leaves. Cover young seedlings with burlap during the wintering period
After planting, water the seedlings with 20 liters of water. In the first months, water every 2 weeks. Form the crown of the tree directly. To do this, after planting, cut 50-60 cm from the top and 1/3 side branches.
Caring for a hybrid is not much different from the conditions of its parents. However, he will delight you with his harvest.
