Chernovar («Chernovar»)

Černovar is a real Czech beer, but only a small part of it is sold in the Czech Republic. The drink is exported to more than 20 countries, and many foreigners use it to judge the advantages and disadvantages of Czech beer. The popularity of “Chernovar” is so great that, starting from 2014, its production volume increases by 30% every year.

Historical reference. The group of companies “Russian Tradition”, founded in 1997, for several years was engaged exclusively in the distribution of well-known foreign brands of beer: Krušovice, Bavaria, Paulaner, Warsteiner, Pilsner Urquell. But at the beginning of the XNUMXst century, the owners of large foreign firms came to the conclusion that the production of beer under a license is much more profitable than export. More than half of the clients terminated their contracts with Russian Tradition. Andrey Brailovsky, one of the founders of the group, realized that it is impossible to compete in the beer market without own production.

Russian Tradition ordered the development of recipes for its own brands of beer from experienced Czech and German brewers. One of these brands was Černovar, registered in 2004. At first, beer was produced under contract at the Platan plant in Protivin, then production was transferred to a more powerful enterprise in Czech Budejovice.

By 2010, up to 40% of the profit “Russian Tradition” received from the sale of its own beer. Chernovar branded restaurants were opened in large cities of Russia. It’s time to start thinking about your own brewery.

The Tradiční pivovar enterprise in Rakovnik, famous for its excellent beer, could not stand the competition with large European companies and eked out a miserable existence. The equipment is hopelessly outdated. The capacities of the plant, built in the middle of the 20th century and survived two world wars, were only XNUMX% loaded.

The restoration of the enterprise was led by Pavel Gregorich himself, a legend of Czech brewing. For some time he held the position of General Director of the largest Czech brewery Pilsensky Prazdroj, then built a plant in Krušovice and set up production there.

The brewery in Rakovnik has been completely refurbished. The only thing that was not touched upon by the transformation was the old tanks for open fermentation. This technology is much more complex than the cylindric tank fermentation method that has been introduced around the world. But open fermentation is the hallmark of Czech beer, something that distinguishes it from the standardized products of international concerns, which the Czechs themselves contemptuously call eurobeer.

Thanks to open fermentation, Chernovar is considered a premium craft beer. From 2010 to 2016, the production volume of the drink increased 8 times. Černovar is exported to Russia, USA, China, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, Israel.

In 2016, the light beer Černovar won first place at the prestigious international competition “Czech Beer Print” in the nomination “Light Premium Lager”.
