Ginger, miso soup or turmeric are more and more often hosted on our tables and we are getting to know their properties better and better. It turns out that many products used every day in Asian cuisine are excellent ways to fight the autumn cold.
Asian spices can be extremely helpful in the fight against colds. The warming ones are ginger and ginseng. The first one can be bought in fresh or powdered form without any problems, and in case of illness, the fresh one is the most recommended, because it contains antioxidants and the highest dose of active substances. It is worth adding it to warming drinks, such as raspberry tea or water with honey and lemon.
Health-promoting recipes
However, you can also prepare a strongly warming and healing soup that will stimulate the body to regenerate, warm you up and provide valuable elements. Turmeric, known as one of the most powerful antioxidants in nature, i.e. ingredients that fight viruses and fungi in our body, also has a valuable effect. It is part of the curry mix, so it can be easily added to everyday dishes, but you can also make “golden milk” from it, i.e. stimulating the body to regenerate, nourishing and healing drink based on turmeric and milk. It especially helps with viral infections and when we add honey, it will also help with a sore throat.
Broth again
Often when sick, chicken broth is recommended, but this dish does not seem to go well with Asian ingredients. Nothing could be more wrong! If we add ginger, fresh seaweed and soy sauce to the broth, we get Japanese miso soup, which cleanses the blood, adds vigor and nourishes. If, on the other hand, we add fried lemongrass, curry, garlic and ginger to the broth, and then add lime and coconut milk, we get a Thai tom jam soup containing all the ingredients that give energy and accelerate recovery when suffering from a cold. You can add rice noodles to such a soup or drink it plain.
Green and warming
During illness, we can reach for one more product known in the Asian tradition for thousands of years. Green tea contains a lot of polyphenols that protect the body from the inside, and chromium, phosphorus, vitamins and other elements that help to recover. But be careful – green tea has a cooling effect, so during illness it is better to add sliced ginger or honey to it to warm up the body.
