Depressants are those that have a calming, sleeping and anxiolytic effect. Such substances are often prescribed by doctors to patients who cannot cope with stress and challenges in everyday life, suffer from insomnia, have experienced trauma or are hyperactive. Thanks to this, after a day full of stress, they can calm down and in the evening sleep comes quickly and for a long time. Unfortunately, the price for such action is often a negative impact on the patient’s bed life.

There are several ways in which depressants negatively affect libido. Firstly, improperly selected drugs or too high doses make us drowsy, sluggish and drift into our own world. Such a person is preoccupied with his own thoughts, he may feel more inclined to sleep, but it will be rather difficult to get him to play in bed. Also because the overall activity of the body decreases – people using such substances are often lethargic and give up physical activity. In turn, sleeping pills make us drowsy after going to bed and wake up only in the morning, which reduces the chance of having sex. It also happens that antidepressants directly affect potency and reduce it. Let us remember that alcohol is also a depressant, which when abused often leads to a decrease in potency, both after consumption and in the long term.

They don’t feel anything

Another way in which depressants can negatively affect libido has to do with how they work. Such drugs are often used, for example, after accidents or injuries. Opioids, sleeping pills and strong painkillers reduce the perception of body signals. This, in turn, makes bed activity pointless, because the patient will not feel pleasure or any sensations in his body. For this reason, people who reach for depressants often give up sex or make attempts that do not give them satisfaction.

They should not discourage sex

Depressants and drugs cause a feeling of isolation, bliss and satisfaction regardless of the circumstances. In such a situation, it is difficult to find motivation to undertake bed activity. Let us remember, however, that the purpose of depressants is to temporarily relieve unpleasant symptoms such as excessive arousal, stress or insomnia, not to destroy the libido. Therefore, if our libido is very low in connection with depressants, it is worth asking a doctor or considering whether we are abusing depressants.
