Every gardener wants to have an excellent and high-quality harvest. The Hercules bow can help achieve this dream. This variety has become the standard for the rest in terms of quality and yield, besides, it is not afraid of long-term storage, which is also a considerable advantage. Any variety will give you 8 kg of harvest, harvested from 1 square. m.? After all, not everyone is so fertile. Therefore, by choosing this variety, you will never regret and will only rejoice at your achievements in harvesting. Now it is necessary to understand in more detail what makes Hercules onion sets so good.
Advantages of the variety
It won’t take long to describe the advantages of this bow, since they are few, but they are very important. This variety has characteristic qualities, thanks to which it is now the standard for other varieties. So what are these qualities? The main advantage that a small number of varieties has is its shelf life. This variety was bred by Dutch breeders for the purpose of long-term storage. The highlight of this onion, perhaps, will be that it has a delicate and at the same time not very spicy taste. An equally important plus is the level of its resistance to possible diseases and pests, and it is also quite resistant to the formation of arrows. Well, and of course, for the sake of which onions are grown – a yield of 8 kg from an area of 1 sq. m. In addition, drought will not be able to affect the growth and development of onions, since it does not have a weak root system.
What is special about growing
Before planting the onion, it is necessary to sort it out and select those bulbs that were previously damaged or dried out – they will not be planted. The rest need to be distributed according to their size in order to individually plant bulbs of the same size. Before planting, the onion warms up. To do this, you need to put it on a heated place for a period of about 2 days. You can also place it in a container with warm water for 2 minutes, and then rinse it again, but with cold water and also for 2 minutes. Next, the water is drained, and the sevok is laid out to dry. To avoid a fungal disease, onion prophylaxis is carried out: onions are placed in a solution of nitrophoska (10 liters of water and 1 tablespoon of nitrophoska) for 10 hours. After this time, the seeds should be placed for 10 minutes in a weak solution of copper sulphate. After the perfect actions, you can not be afraid to plant onions in the ground.
But first you need to prepare the appropriate soil for the Hercules onion. The landing site should be on a flat area, and not in a lowland. The acceptable temperature for growing is about +10 degrees, and the humidity should not exceed the permissible norm, because the onion cannot be stored for a long time and will soon rot. It is best to start planting onions in late autumn, but before the moment when the temperature is below zero. Before planting, the soil must be loosened, weeded from weeds and fertilized and humus.
If planting takes place on loamy soil, then the most suitable composition for fertilizer will be as follows: 5 kg of peat, 4 kg of humus, tablespoons of superphosphate, a teaspoon of urea. Consumption is calculated for 1 sq. m. In the event that the onion is planted on sandy soil, then the necessary fertilizer will consist of: 1 bucket of peat, 1 bucket of humus, 1,5-2 buckets of clay soil, 3 tablespoons of superphosphate, a tablespoon of urea. Consumption remains the same – 1 sq. m.
After the fertilizers have been applied to the soil, it must be covered with a film and left in this state for 5 days. Then you can start disembarking. The spacing between rows during the planting process should be approximately 20 cm and between the onions 10 cm.
Caring for this variety of onions is not difficult. The main action is weeding onions from weeds and their cleaning from the territory of the garden. If you follow all the care requirements, then quite large bulbs will grow. Therefore, in order for them to have time to ripen before the autumn rains begin, their feather must be bent to the ground at the end of August. This way they will ripen faster. After the onion has been harvested, it must be prepared for storage: it is dried and sent to a fairly cool, dry place.
