Eyelid fissure distortion is caused by various diseases. Many of them concern the skin of the eyelids, in which there are changes similar to those found on the skin of other parts of the body, such as boils, abscesses, impetigo, herpes and allergic urticaria. These conditions require treatment by an allergist, dermatologist, and ophthalmologist.
In elderly people, the skin of the eyelids becomes thinner, its elasticity is reduced and it is excessively dry. Wrinkles form and the capillaries widen. Sufficient loss of orbital fat causes the eyeball to collapse and the gap of the eyelids to narrow. Sometimes the orbital fat moves forward and the lower eyelids become baggy. The atrophy of the disc and muscles causes the upper eyelid to droop and the lower eyelid to retract. These changes are the cause of constant tearing, which is very unpleasant for the patient. Wiping your tears frequently from top to bottom further exacerbates the eyelid rolling process. This condition usually requires surgical treatment. In older people, the muscles of the eyelids sometimes contract excessively, tightening them and collapsing the lower eyelid. The eyelashes turn inward, irritating the conjunctiva and the cornea, causing constant pain and watery eyes.
Surgical treatment of eyelid deformities is performed by an ophthalmologist or plastic surgeon.
Yellow tufts
They belong to the common senile changes of the eyelids. These are deposits of cholesterol or fat bodies that are deposited symmetrically in the shape of butterfly wings in the inner parts of the eyelids. They are surgically removed.
Eyelid spasms
Common ailment is eyelid spasms (tics), in the form of unpleasant twitching of contractile muscle fibers, usually the lower eyelid. These are harmless disorders, not related to any eye disease. On the other hand, a strong spasm (spasm) of the eyelids, often painful, can accompany inflammatory diseases of the conjunctiva, cornea, sclera or iris. There is often lacrimation, photophobia. Treat the disease that leads to spasms of the eyelids.
Drop of the upper eyelid
Drop of the upper eyelid on one or both sides should be classified as an abnormality in the position of the eyelids. It is a fairly common developmental defect, sometimes hereditary and family history, sometimes together with other defects in the development of the eyelid gap. Surgical treatment is required when the drooping of the eyelids is severe and obstructs vision. The procedure is often carried out in children.
Eyelid fissure regurgitation
Eyelid fissure regurgitation is the result of paresis or paralysis of the facial nerve. When the eyelids do not close properly, the cornea and conjunctiva can dry out easily, which can cause serious consequences for the eye. Such a condition should not be taken lightly, but seek ophthalmological help. It is necessary to use special dressings to protect the eyeball, and even to carry out plastic surgery of the eyelids.
