Change bedding: how often, why, hygiene standards
Simple truth: “Cleanliness is the key to health.” But how many people know how often bed linen needs to be changed so that the prerequisites for the occurrence of any diseases do not appear? Why does the bed get dirty and how intense is it in different people?
How the bed linen gets dirty
A person spends a third of his life in a dream. 8 hours daily. The body at this time does not stop its activity: perspiration, gas exchange, etc. still occur. In addition, there are external factors (dust, dirt).
What contaminates bedding:
- dust – it contains microscopic bacteria, fungal spores, viruses, mites;
- dead skin particles;
- sweat (from 0,5 to 1 liter per night);
- fatty skin discharge;
- the remains of cosmetics and nourishing cream.
Even if the pollution is not visible, this does not mean that they are not. The accumulation of all of the above on your bed can provoke a wide variety of diseases. The simplest of which is allergy.
How often to change bedding
It is recommended to change the linen on the bed depending on how quickly it gets dirty, but at least once a week. These are general recommendations. Health status and the presence of external factors can force you to do this more often.
Let’s consider in more detail some life situations:
- Small children. The baby should sleep only on clean and dry clothes. Therefore, at the slightest contamination of the bed with food, regurgitation, urine or feces, it is necessary to immediately replace the soiled element of bedding with a clean one. It is not necessary to change the entire set, you can only replace the sheet, pillowcase or duvet cover.
- Sick or elderly people who are bedridden. For this category, the recommendations are completely identical to the advice of the previous paragraph.
- Patients with adherence to bed rest. Even if the laundry appears to be perfectly clean, it needs to be changed daily. After all, a person spends in bed 24 hours a day. At the same time, he sweats (with colds – quite profusely), his sweat and sebaceous glands work more actively. And such secretions are an ideal environment for the development of pathogenic microflora.
- Change of seasons. In summer we sweat more and open windows more often. Therefore, there is more pollution on the bed. Therefore, in warm and hot seasons, linen should be changed more often than once a week. The best option is once every 5 days.
Thus, the frequency of linen changes in bed depends on who it is intended for, the season and other factors.
Changing bed linen on time means taking care of the health of your loved ones. To do this, you must have at least 2 changes of linen for each bed. It’s good that washing is not a problem for a modern woman. Automatic washing machines take on this difficult mission completely.
