Champagne during pregnancy and lactation

During the holidays, a pregnant or lactating woman wants to drink a glass or two of champagne. But many fear that even a small dose of alcohol will harm the baby. We will consider how true these fears are, and whether nursing mothers and pregnant women can drink champagne.

Studies have shown that the systematic use of alcoholic beverages adversely affects the development of the fetus. In this case, there is a risk that the child will have a congenital mental retardation or other pathologies that can only appear during puberty, that is, after 11-14 years.

But if a woman drank alcohol several times, not yet knowing that she was pregnant, then you should not have an abortion, it is unlikely that this brought irreparable harm to the unborn baby. The use of alcoholic beverages during several months of pregnancy is considered systematic.

At the same time, the safe dose of champagne or other alcohol for a pregnant woman is not exactly known. It depends on the individual characteristics of the organism. Therefore, doctors advise not to take risks and completely abandon the use of alcohol.

In some cases, pregnant women are allowed to drink red wine, but it is taken only after the recommendation and under the supervision of a doctor.

Champagne for nursing mothers

Approximately the same situation with nursing mothers. Theoretically, a few glasses of champagne are harmless and alcohol should not get into the milk. But in practice, things can happen differently. Therefore, during breastfeeding, doctors advise to completely abandon the use of alcoholic beverages.
