Cevikap – indications and dosage

Cevikap is a drug recommended for the prevention and treatment of vitamin deficiency states. C when following a proper diet is not enough.

Drug dosage

Cevikap comes in the form of drops to be taken by mouth. The drug is added to a drink or food. 1 drop of the preparation contains 5 mg of vit. C.

  1. Babies and children up to 2 years of age. 5-8 drops 1 × / d added to drink or food.
  2. Children 2-11. year of life 10 drops 1 × / d.
  3. Youth 12.-17. from the age of 15-20 drops once a day.

Cevikap and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Cevikap are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. oxalate nephrolithiasis,
  3. iron storage disorders.

Cevikap – warnings

  1. Cevikap should be discontinued at least 1 day before laboratory blood, urine and stool tests are performed (risk of false blood and urine blood glucose or creatinine levels).
  2. Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  3. During pregnancy, doses of ascorbic acid in excess of the daily requirement for pregnant women (80 mg per day) are not recommended due to the risk of avitaminosis in newborns.
  4. Caution should be exercised when administering vitamin C to breastfeeding women. Do not take large doses.

Cevikap and other substances

  1. Cevikap should not be administered simultaneously with copper and iron compounds and preparations with oxidizing properties.
  2. Vitamin C increases the absorption of iron.
  3. Taking Cevikap with acetylsalicylic acid reduces the level of ascorbic acid in the blood. Ascorbic acid reduces the excretion of acetylsalicylic acid.
  4. Vitamin C in doses greater than 1 g per day reduces the effectiveness of tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazines, aminoglycosides; increases the concentration of estrogen used in the blood.
  5. Ascorbic acid extends the duration of action of paracetamol, increases the plasma concentration of tocopherol (vitamin E) and may reduce the effectiveness of vitamin B12.
  6. Vitamin C may modify the therapeutic effects of other drugs by altering hepatic metabolism.

Cevikap – side effects

Taking too much Cevikap can cause:

  1. nausea,
  2. diarrhea
  3. skin rashes
  4. Headache,
  5. increased urine output,
  6. build-up of urate and cystine stones, especially in patients with urolithiasis or undergoing hemodialysis
  7. People with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, high doses of vitamin C may lead to haemolysis.
