Ceroxim is an antibiotic belonging to the second generation cephalosporins. It can be used in the treatment of acute streptococcal infections of the throat and tonsils, inflammations of the middle ear or paranasal sinuses. Unfortunately, not in every case and not every patient can be given Ceroxim. When is it safe to reach for it?

Ceroxim is an antibacterial drug. The active substance of Ceruxim is cefuroxime. The antibiotic is recommended for the treatment of mild to acute bacterial infections, but only in cases where the causing bacteria are susceptible to cefuroxime.

Ceroxim – action

Ceroxim contains the active substance cefuroxime in an inactive form. The active form of the drug is released only in the intestines. Ceroxim inhibits the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, which stops the bacteria from multiplying. The antibiotic has a wide spectrum of action. It is recommended especially in the treatment of infections of soft tissues, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and even Lyme disease.

Ceroxim – indications

Ceroxim is used to treat all bacterial infections caused by bacteria which are sensitive to cefuroxime. The drug can be administered in the case of:

  1. acute streptococcal pharyngitis and tonsillitis;
  2. bacterial otitis media;
  3. bacterial sinusitis;
  4. chronic bronchitis difficult to treat;
  5. cystitis;
  6. pyelonephritis;
  7. early stage of Lyme disease;
  8. easily treated infections of the skin and mucous membranes.

Ceroxim – contraindications

Ceroxim is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug. If symptoms of hypersensitivity appear, discontinue use immediately and see a doctor.

Ceroxim – precautions

If you have ever experienced symptoms of hypersensitivity, please inform your doctor before administering the drug. With chronic antibiotic use, resistant bacteria and fungi may develop. Please consult your doctor in this case. You should also contact your doctor if you experience diarrhea as it should not be treated on your own.

During the treatment of Lyme disease, the so-called Jarisch and Herxheimer reactions. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, muscle and bone pain, increased heart rate, itching, nausea, rash and vomiting.

People with diabetes should also exercise caution. Ceroxim can also affect our ability to drive.

During pregnancy, the drug should only be used when absolutely necessary. Breastfeeding women should refrain from using the drug.

Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including those available without a prescription. Ceroxim may interact with other preparations.

Ceroxim – dosage

Ceroxim is available as film-coated tablets for oral administration. The dose is determined by the doctor, depending on the patient’s condition, type of infection and its intensity. The duration of the treatment is also determined by the doctor.

Ceroxim is used orally. The tablet is taken with a meal. It should be swallowed whole and washed down with a little water. The tablets should not be crushed.

Ceroxim – side effect

Side effects do not occur in every patient. The most common symptoms are excessive fungal growth, eosinophilia, headaches and dizziness, diarrhea, nausea and abdominal pain. Liver enzyme abnormalities may also occur.
