Cefalgin is used in pain of mild or moderate intensity (migraine headache, toothache, dysmenorrhea, neuralgia) and fever. The drug is in the form of tablets and is dispensed without a prescription. After oral administration, the active substances of the preparation are rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Action of the drug Cefalgin
A combined preparation with an analgesic and antipyretic effect, thanks to the content paracetamol. Another ingredient of the drug is propyphenazonewhich is effective in relieving pain caused by smooth muscle spasm. Whereas the third substance- caffeine, intensifies the analgesic effect of the aforementioned ingredients. The substances contained in Cefalgin pass through the placenta and into breast milk.
Indications and dosage of the drug Cefalgin
Cefalgin relieves pain of mild or moderate intensity (migraine headache, toothache, dysmenorrhea, neuralgia, fever).
Dosage:
The preparation is in the form of coated tablets and is intended for oral use, they should be washed down with water.
- Adults: orally. 1-2 tablets, up to 3 times a day
Do not use the drug for more than a week without consulting a doctor.
Cefalgin and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Cefalgin are:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation (acetylsalicylic acid or pyrazolone derivatives).
- Congenital deficiency of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase.
- Acute hepatic porphyria.
- Abnormal blood count (anemia, leukopenia, agranulocytosis).
- Hypertension.
- Severe hepatic and / or renal failure.
- Peptic ulcer of the stomach and / or duodenum.
- Alcohol Disease.
- Pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding.
Cefalgin – warnings
Do not use the treatment without a doctor’s recommendation for more than 7 days.
- Check if any other drugs you are taking contain paracetamol to avoid overdosing.
- The recommended daily doses must not be exceeded.
- Patients with asthma, with chronic rhinitis, urticaria, hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should be especially careful.
- People with renal, hepatic and Gilbert’s syndrome should be especially careful.
- Caution should be exercised in patients with haemopoietic disorders, alcoholism and the use of drugs inducing hepatic enzymes.
- Do not drink alcohol during treatment with the drug (risk of liver damage).
- In the event of renal or hepatic failure, stop treatment immediately.
- The drug does not pose a risk when driving motor vehicles, if consumed in therapeutic doses.
Cefalgin with other drugs
- The effect of paracetamol enhances the effect of coumarin derivative anticoagulants.
- Salicylamide increases the time of paracetaol excretion.
- The use of Cefalgin simultaneously with MAO inhibitors and 14 days after the end of treatment causes a state of agitation and high fever.
- Rifampicin, antiepileptic drugs (phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine), certain sleeping pills or alcohol consumption can cause serious liver damage.
- Paracetamol in combination with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs increases the possibility of kidney damage.
- Paracetamol increases the toxic effects of zidovudine and chloramphenicol.
- The use of the drug may affect the test results (incorrect blood glucose levels).
- The caffeine contained in the drug may increase the tachycardia caused by sympathomimetic drugs and thyroxine.
- Contraceptives (cimetidine, disulfiram) also slow down the metabolism of caffeine, while smoking accelerates it.
- Caffeine delays the elimination of theophylline and increases the risk of ephedrine dependence.
Cefalgin – side effects
When using Cefalgin, the following may be annoying:
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- headaches,
- sleep disturbances,
- muscle tremors,
- impaired liver and / or kidney function,
- itching, hives, rash, erythema
- angioedema
- dyspnoea,
- napad astmy,
- anaphylactic shock,
- very rare: thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, methaemoglobinaemia, aplastic anemia.
