Constipation is a condition that affects women much more often than men. The problem of “jammed intestines” affects as much as 30% of humanity and unfortunately many people have no idea what is causing it. Medical tests do not provide a clear answer, and the problem is still ongoing. When this happens, the intestines may be lazy or something is wrong between the brain and the excretory part of the body. Here are some unobvious causes of constipation.
When visits to the doctor do not give results, the reason may be irritable bowel syndrome or improper lifestyle and bad habits. This is the case if, in addition to problems with defecation, during the day you notice symptoms such as:
- Abdominal pain that goes away after a bowel movement
- Flatulence
- abdominal pain,
- Feeling full quickly while eating.
Reason No. 1. Lack of breakfasts and dinners “rich”
Not everyone feels hungry in the morning, but skipping breakfast has many unpleasant consequences for the body. You deprive your body of the fuel it needs to function properly, and at the same time lead to bouts of “wolf appetite” after a few hours, which is a quick way to overweight. Skipping this meal also slows down your metabolism. Lack of breakfast and eating large meals in the evening disturb the work of the intestines. In the evening they are slowed down, and in the morning they work at the highest speed. Binge eating at night causes a problem with bowel movements and at the same time disturbs the rest of the body, which is busy digesting a large meal. If you want to regulate the work of your intestines, adjust the meals you eat to the circadian rhythm.
Reason number 2. Busy days and stress
If you live in constant stress and rush, you certainly often don’t have time to go to the bathroom. It’s a mistake – when your body signals it’s time to defecate, take a moment to do it. If you ignore these signals, over time the sensory receptors of the lower digestive system will not be sensitive enough and the body will stop communicating that it is time to defecate.
Also, hormonal fluctuations resulting, for example, from thyroid disease are conducive to constipation, because the thyroid gland is responsible for the correct rate of metabolism.
Reason #3. What you put in
Some medications, such as antacids, calcium or iron, are constipating. The list of preparations conducive to constipation also includes drugs for depression, some birth control pills, antihistamines, beta-blockers, drugs for high blood pressure, and strong painkillers.
Chocolate is also blamed for constipation. Here, however, it is an individual matter – for some it will strengthen the symptoms, and for others it will even help to eliminate them. It all depends on the reaction of the body of a particular person.
