Sometimes, on a pond, you can meet a fisherman with an unusual fishing rod that does not have a classic design. She does not have a float, but the rod has a side nod. As bait, the fisherman uses a summer mormyshka. The summer mormyshka has been known for a long time, but only now it is very popular, since it has become possible to purchase a light rod that can be waved without much effort even for a whole day.

Mormyshka can be thrown into any space free from algae and easy to manipulate. This effective bait has proven itself well on wild rivers, where you need to catch fish and for this you have to resort to various tricks.

Rod selection

When choosing a rod, you should pay attention to its lightness and length. At the same time, it must be remembered that there will be no classic bite signaling device (in the form of a float). Instead, bites will be transmitted to a nod (as in a winter fishing rod). But there are some nuances here, because the nod will be at a considerable distance and its work is not so easy to see. To make it more noticeable, it is attached to the side of the rod. Thus, the main element of such a rod is its tip, which must have a certain rigidity and strength. He must support his own weight and the weight of the nod along with the mormyshka, and at the same time not sag. The nod is attached to the side of the tip with a special coupling. For fishing in the summer using a side nod, rods that are 4-5 meters long and have a rigid action are best suited. It is also possible to use longer rods, but for them you need to have strong hands. To make the rod light, a small but simple inertial reel with fishing line is mounted on it, with a diameter of not more than 0,25 mm.

• bottom game: mormyshka sinks to the bottom, after which it is raised to a height of 10-15 cm and played with it, giving small impulses. The game continues for 1-2 minutes, after which the mormyshka is lowered to the bottom.
• finger play: everything is done in the same way as in the previous case, but the game of the mormyshka is set by tapping the finger on the butt of the rod.
• tension: Used when there is current. In this case, the mormyshka sinks to the bottom, and then, using the tension of the fishing line, it is slowly raised closer to the surface of the water.
• jerks. The mormyshka is fixed in the water column, and then with a sharp movement, the mormyshka rises to a height of about 40 cm, after which everything is repeated again.
• bottom movement: lowering the mormyshka to the bottom, give it translational movements using a nod. In this case, the mormyshka should not come off the bottom.
• calm position: mormyshka stop at the desired depth and wait for bites.
• drawing: lowering the mormyshka to the bottom, give it a forward movement with the help of a rod. As a result of such actions, the bait moves along the bottom.

A rubber mount is more suitable for nods that are not made of metal, but of a material such as plastic. The fact is that metal nods quickly disable such a mount.

As an option, you can offer a fastening structure made of a nail, 5010 cm long (possibly from wire). To make the nail more suitable for this design, they bite off its hat, and then bend it at an angle of 30-90 degrees, somewhere in the middle. After that, the metal blank is wrapped with a thread, coated with glue and left to dry completely. Then, the dried structure is applied to the tip of the rod and wrapped with electrical tape. To the free end of the workpiece, a nod is attached in the same way (using electrical tape).

To make a side nod, you should immediately decide on the material. Many experts recommend using the following materials for this:

• strips from plastic bottles, which are cut with ordinary scissors.
• clockwork springs.
• from metal packing strips, which are used to secure cargo.
• from construction tape.
• from a broken knee of a fishing rod or spinning rod.

It is easy and affordable to use a plastic (at least one liter) bottle that has a flat side surface. In addition to the bottle, you need to have scissors, a needle file, a paper clip and a regular thread. The body of the nod is cut out from the side surface of the bottle, while it has the following dimensions: length 20-30 cm, width of one of the bases 0,7-1 cm, and width of the other end (top) 0,3-0,5 cm. All cut lines must be smoothed and for this you can use a needle file.

A ring is formed from the paper clip, but first the paper clip needs to be straightened and made even. The ring is made in such a way that it has two legs, with which the ring will be held at the top of the nod. The legs are wound with ordinary threads (tightly) and waterproof glue is applied.

For the effectiveness of fishing, it is worth making several nods of various sizes, for various fishing conditions. Harder ones are suitable for heavy lures, and softer ones are suitable for lighter ones. As a result of experiments, you can choose a nod for a certain type of fish.

A good option for making a summer nod from a broken rod or spinning rod. This option is more versatile, as it can be suitable for various fishing conditions. A nod of the appropriate size and shape is cut out of the broken ring. Then cultivate the edges with sandpaper and a file. The nod ring is made from a paper clip, as in the first version, or can be used from a broken fishing rod. The ring is also attached to the top of the nod with threads and impregnated with waterproof glue.

After manufacturing, it is desirable to decorate the nod so that it can be clearly seen. Any coloring with one color or a combination of two colors will do, then the nod will be much more noticeable. The main thing is to see the slightest touch of the fish to the bait.

Making a winter side nod yourself

Such nods can be made of the same material as summer nods and using the same technology. The difference between summer and winter nods is only in size: the usual length of a winter nod is 5-10 cm, and its thickness is 0,5-0,7 cm at the base and 0,5-0,1 cm at the top.

The manufacture of a nod should be approached with all seriousness, since this is the main element of the tackle. All bites are transmitted to it and the outcome of all fishing depends on how correctly it will work. It is not enough to make and kiss a nod, it still needs to be adjusted so that it does not bend under the weight of the bait, otherwise there will be false positives.
