As a rule, grayling is caught by fly fishing, but spinning fishing also shows good results. Quite often, if we compare the catches of spinners and fly fishers, spinners win the championship, both in quantity and quality.
When fishing for grayling, the choice of tackle is very important. Given the fact that this fish feeds mostly on invertebrates, it is necessary to apply miniature lures, and you can only work with them ultralight spinning.
Tackle for catching grayling
To equip such a spinning you need to have:
- spinning rod with test up to 7g and length from 1,8 to 2,4m;
- spinning reel size 2500 with front drag;
- braided line, 0,1 mm in diameter and 150 m long;
- a spare spool with a monofilament with a diameter of 0,16 mm, having the same length;
- artificial baits, weighing no more than 7g.
The best lures
For catching grayling, such baits as wobblers and turntables (spinners) are very popular.
Spinners (turntables)
- Among the leaders of catchy spinners for grayling are spinners Aglia Long No. 00 and Aglia No. 00 from Mepps.
- In second place is the Panter Martin #1 turntable. This micro lure has a weight of 1g and is designed for fishing in fast currents. The petal of this spinner does not have special adapters for fastening and is planted directly on the axis of the spinner. She does not lose her game on the fast current even during a collision with stones. It is also worth noting that this spinner has a minimum number of hooks.
- When catching a larger grayling, which is found in Siberian rivers, you can use larger lures, such as Aglia Long No. 2 or Comet Decore No. 3 from Mepps, as well as Myran spinners, weighing 7-10g, Blue Fox spinners No. 2- No. 4. In this case, baits with different colors can be used. The colors are chosen depending on the weather and other factors affecting the bite of the grayling. In the presence of the sun, the grayling takes on copper petals better, and on a cloudy day, baits with silver petals are more attractive for it.
Wobblers for fishing on the current
In fast currents, micro-wobblers are used, such as Anglers Republic BM-20 SR. The use of wobblers makes fishing more efficient, as the spinning player has additional opportunities, since wobblers are easier to control in a significant current. Suspenders and sinking wobblers have proven themselves well. The main thing is that the bait does not jump to the surface in the presence of a fast current.
- The Auglers Repyblic BM – 20SR and BM-25SR model takes the first place.
- Slightly lower in efficiency is the Agua Bit wobbler, diving to a depth of 1 meter.
- Lures from Yo-Zuri have proven themselves not bad. These small lures, called Snap Beans MS, dive to a depth of 0,5m.
Technique for catching grayling with spinning
Catching grayling on spinning has its own characteristics, since the grayling is not a pure predator and does not chase potential victims in a fast current. In this case, slow wiring of the bait is carried out. The characteristics of spinners must be such that they can work without winding, but purely from the flow of the river.
- A transverse casting of tackle is used, after which a slow wiring of the bait is carried out, which is carried away by the current diagonally.
- Posting against the current also gives its results. The wiring is very slow. There may be pauses, as a result of which the bait continues to play. When posting against the current, the bait is pressed by the current closer to the shore.
- Casting against the current, when the bait (wobbler) swims past the fish, provoking it to attack. This method is more designed for lazy and well-fed graylings, who will certainly react to prey passing by.
Grayling-choice of spinning gear…
Spinning fishing is an interesting activity, but it requires serious preparation and the right choice of equipment, especially when fishing for grayling. As a rule, very light and strong spinning rods, medium fast action of the ultralight class, are suitable for this. These are not cheap rods, made of modern ultra-light materials with excellent strength and flexibility.
Unfortunately, this is not enough. In order for fishing to give tangible results, it is necessary to train a lot in order to properly serve and then hold the bait, especially of very small sizes, when its weight is barely noticeable.
It does not make sense to count on productive fishing if the fisherman thinks that the fish will attack everything that is offered to her, especially if he is holding an “oak” rod in his hands.
When going fishing, do not forget about equipment that can protect you at any time from bad weather, as well as from various blood-sucking insects.
