The most common object of winter fishing is perch. Moreover, it is a great pleasure to catch small representatives of this family. If we talk about a large perch, then everything is more complicated here, since you need to know where and how a large perch is caught, as well as with what nozzles.

If not large specimens are distributed throughout the reservoir, then larger individuals prefer to be in their shelters and only occasionally leave them to chase fry. Therefore, the capture of a one and a half kilogram specimen is not a problem, but you will have to try. Everything will depend on how large perch grows in a particular reservoir.

To catch large perches, you need to find the right place and properly organize the fishing process. It is equally important to choose the right bait.

How to look for large perch in winter

First you need to decide on a promising place. If you have already had to fish on the reservoir, then this will not be difficult, since all catchable places are known. As a rule, this fish grows to large sizes in large reservoirs and lakes, where there is enough food. Despite this, such knowledge may also be needed to catch large specimens, but in smaller reservoirs. Maybe these will not be one and a half kilogram individuals, but only half a kilogram, but still catching them is much more pleasant than a “trifle” weighing no more than 100 g.

Arriving at a large reservoir, you will have to go deep into the ice, at a distance of at least 0,5-1 kilometer. Only in this case, you can count on success. Despite this, the perch quite often comes closer to the shore, but this is rare even at a time when there are no fishermen on the ice or the ice is quite thick and the perch is not wary of the fishermen moving across the ice. In addition, you need to know exactly where the perch comes to the shore.

To find a perch parking lot, you will have to drill a couple of dozen holes in a checkerboard pattern or in a different pattern.

As a rule, all holes are punched, one after another, and only then they start the process of fishing. But before that, bait in the form of a bloodworm or mormysh is poured into all the holes. This is quite simple and effective, and it must be taken into account that the type of bait that is supposed to be used to catch perch is used. If a bloodworm is used as bait, then it is also used as bait. To do this, it is enough to throw a pinch of bait into each hole.

Each hole is fished for no more than 10-15 minutes. When a perch is found, several more holes can be drilled around the catch hole, at a distance of 2-3 meters from one another. Additional holes are also fed and fished. A similar approach to the process of catching large perch always gives a positive result.

The outcome of any fishing depends on the choice and configuration of gear. Since it is supposed to catch large individuals, the equipment must be appropriate. The use of coarse gear, with the use of fishing lines with a thickness of more than 0,2 mm, is not welcome. The best option is to use a fishing line with a diameter of not more than 0,15 mm. Such a fishing line does not act as an alarming element for fish. It is desirable to use thin lines, but with a large breaking force. Naturally, such fishing lines are not cheap, but they are worth it. If you have some experience, then on a fishing line, 0,1 mm thick, you can pull out a copy, weighing about 2 kg. The main thing is to feel the moments when the fish resists as much as possible. At these moments, the fishing line is released, and reeled in when the fish is relaxed. If you do not rush and do everything correctly, then the result will always be positive.

Still, it is difficult to catch a large perch on a jig because of its small size. The mormyshka is more intended for catching perch of the classical sizes, which most often peck at the mormyshka. Paradoxically, both experienced and novice winter fishing enthusiasts use the mormyshka. If you want to fish bigger, then you should focus on other baits, such as balancers or spinners. This approach is able to solve the problem. The fact is that such baits, like balancers, are focused on catching large fish.

The balancer is a more interesting bait for winter fishing, focused on catching serious specimens.

Not only is she interested in perch, she is able to automatically cut off small fish. Thanks to its interesting game, this lure is very popular among lovers of winter predator fishing. In addition to perch, the balancer perfectly catches zander. Sometimes a pike also comes across the balancer, but this is a rare occurrence. Its swinging from side to side, during free fall, “turns on” the perch and provokes it to bite.

At the same time, fishing on a balancer requires certain skills and posting rules. The organization of pauses between the movements of the bait up / down is the main condition for successful bites. In the process of movement, the perch aims, and at the moment of a pause it grabs it. Almost all attacks fall on hooks, whether it’s a tee or a regular hook.

For perch fishing, the optimal sizes are from 4 to 6 cm. On such balancers, mainly large perch are caught, and this is what you need. The color of the bait also affects the effectiveness and intensity of the bite. The most interesting for perch are the following colors:

  • silver;
  • perch color;
  • acid shades.

If the perch is passive, then it begins to sort out the sizes, shapes and colors. When a fish is actively feeding, it pays little attention to these factors and grabs everything that is offered to it.

Various spinners can be considered the best lures for catching perch with spinning.

The spinner is also capable of catching large perch. From the huge variety of winter spinners, you can choose a few catchy ones. But for this you will have to go to the reservoir to test the purchased baits. There is no other way, since every angler should not be trusted at his word.

As a rule, catchy specimens are expensive baits and not every angler will go for such costs, especially since you can’t get off with one bait. Therefore, some anglers practice the manufacture of various lures, including winter spinners, at home. With due diligence, home-made models can be obtained that have no worse characteristics than purchased ones. Usually, high-quality homemade products come out of the hands of those fishermen who are serious about this process.

For winter fishing for large perch, models with sizes from 25 to 60 mm are more suitable. At the same time, you should always remember that increasing the size of the bait reduces the number of bites. Therefore, one has to choose between quantity and quality. As a rule, there are also such anglers for whom the more intense the bite, the more interesting.

Trihedral and tetrahedral spinners have proven themselves not badly. Due to their massiveness, they attract more large individuals.

To make sure that winter perch fishing is not just empty talk, it is recommended to watch the corresponding video.

Winter fishing – this is an interesting activity that brings a lot of pleasure, no matter what goals an amateur angler sets for himself. It’s no secret that some anglers go fishing to relax, while others are focused on the result. Maybe they are right: why go in vain for many kilometers from home and freeze near the hole. Such fishermen are very meticulous in preparing for the departure, unlike those who decide to relax and enjoy nature. This is also a pleasure, as well as the accumulation of energy for the future, regardless of the result. Having caught a couple of dozen “little things”, they rejoice like small children. The same fishermen who are seriously preparing for the process of fishing, as a rule, get upset if the fishing, in their opinion, did not take place.

In any case, a lot of positive emotions and cheerfulness are provided for both types of anglers.
