Dr. Pilyulkin in the fairy tale about Dunno treated everything with castor oil – from colds to bruises. And in the 50s, when this book was written, many real, not fictional, doctors did the same! What is she really capable of? Will, for example, castor oil for the face help with wrinkles?
Does castor oil help with wrinkles?
An interesting fact: castor oil is obtained from the castor bean, a very toxic, dangerous plant whose seeds contain the poison ricin. It is five times more dangerous than potassium cyanide and even in small doses has the ability to cause fatal poisoning. Fortunately, during the production of oil, the seeds are processed in a special way, and most of the toxins die. And castor oil itself is often heavily diluted with sunflower and sesame oil: in the vials that we buy, it is a maximum of 10%.
Castor oil smells terrible – everyone who has ever used it (or Vishnevsky’s ointment, which also includes castor oil) knows about this. But many are ready to endure this inconvenience “for the sake of health”: castor oil is still believed to help with digestive problems and a host of other problems, that it improves the quality and growth of hair, and is a super face remedy for wrinkles. Are these expectations justified?
To a certain extent, yes. True, the “healing” properties of the oil are due precisely to the action of the toxin. When we apply castor oil to the skin (whether on the face or scalp), ricin causes local irritation and increased blood circulation, which in turn activates the regeneration processes in men and women. “And thanks to the fact that castor oil contains beneficial fatty acids and vitamin E,” says dermatologist, trichologist Maria Nevskaya, is a means:
protects the skin from aggressive environmental factors;
slows the aging process;
prevents moisture loss;
helps to keep it in the epidermis;
supports the processes of renewal and regeneration in the skin;
works against wrinkles and gives excellent results.
