Dordogne is a rare variety among vegetable crops, undemanding to the qualitative composition of the soil. Seeds germinate and give a steady harvest on heavy dense soils. A necessary requirement is deep autumn plowing: in favorable years, root crops reach a length of 30 cm.

Pre-sowing fertilization, top dressing during the growing season, soil aeration measures are reflected in an increase in crop yield. On heavy clay soils with an insufficient amount of compost and humus, it is recommended to introduce rotted sawdust of deciduous trees from autumn.

Germination of seeds fluctuates at the level of 95-98%. In a garden bed, where each seed knows its place when sowing according to the conductor, this guarantees the required planting density without bald spots and excessive thickening, which leads to deformation and crushing of the fruit.

The preparation of seed material begins in the fall: experienced gardeners recommend a long pre-sowing hardening of carrot seeds with frost. Seed dressing to destroy pathogenic microflora is not always required. Seed growers make a warning label on the package if a comprehensive seed treatment was carried out before packaging.

Carrot Dordogne refers to agricultural crops that can do with rare watering. A full-fledged vegetation will be provided by repeated loosening, mulching of the ridges when the soil dries up, including both compost and freshly cut lawn grass.

In order to avoid damage to the fruits, it is permissible to carry out harvesting of root crops on a personal plot without digging, pulling vegetables out of the ground by the tops. The tops are firmly connected with the root, do not come off.

Growing carrots is a family business. 5 years ago we switched to the Dordogne variety. It’s like a win-win lottery: in the steppe zone of risky agriculture in drought and rainy, rotten summers, there is a crop of root crops. There is little substandard waste in comparison with previous varieties of carrots. They used to feed pigs with them, I had to increase the potato wedge for ingots.

I recommend Dordogne. The plot is in a lowland, the ridges dry out late, the earth is sour. In autumn, I dug up the ridge, in the spring I fenced it – one to one carrots. It’s bad, there is little space to plant in the same place in a year. Nothing seems to affect the yield.
