Carolans: liquor review, how to drink + 5 cocktail recipes

Carolans Irish Cream or simply Carolans is a well-known Irish cream liqueur, inferior in popularity only to the famous Baileys.

Carolans first saw the light in 1978. His small homeland is County Tipperary, located in the southern part of Central Ireland. The young elixir got its name in honor of the famous Irish bard Thorl O’Carolan, who lived in the 2010th century. Since XNUMX, the notorious Campari Group has become the owner of the brand.

The process of making Carolans liqueur

The composition of the Irish drink includes the following components: Irish whiskey Tullamore Dew, local spirit, cream, honey, chocolate, water, some emulsifiers and probably vanilla.

Carolans is made in 4 stages:

  1. Mix of whiskey and alcohol.

  2. The transformation of cream, honey, water and chocolate into a homogeneous mass, in which emulsifiers are added to prevent subsequent coagulation.

  3. Obtaining an emulsion from the alcoholic and dairy components of the future drink.

  4. Control tasting and bottling of liquor (the drink is sold in bottles of 0, 375, 0,5, 0,7 and 1 l).

The finished product differs from its main competitor, Baileys, in the presence of honey, less sweetness and a more balanced taste.

Description and shelf life of Carolans

Classic Carolans contains 17% ethanol. In the case of the UK export version, this parameter is reduced to 14,5%.

The aroma of the mentioned light beige drink contains a pronounced creamy base, accompanied by toffee and chocolate-honey undertones.

The taste of liquor is a successful combination of cream, chocolate and honey caramel.

According to manufacturers, their products can be stored in sealed form at a temperature of 5-20 ° C for up to two years.

After opening, the drink is recommended to be placed in the refrigerator and consumed within six months.

How and with what they drink Carolans

Like all other cream liqueurs, Carolans is exclusively a dessert drink.

In its pure form, it is drunk slightly chilled (for this purpose, you can add an ice cube) from small liquor glasses. At the same time, it harmonizes perfectly with sweet pastries, bananas and creamy desserts.

In addition, the drink can always be added to coffee or hot chocolate.

As in the case of Baileys, it is highly discouraged to mix the liquor we are interested in with acidic substances; for example, with citrus juices (otherwise, its dairy component will curdle corny).
