Carling (Carling) – English beer with Canadian roots. The brand ranks first in sales in the UK and is very popular in South Africa. The plant is located in the brewing capital of the country – the city of Burton-on-Trent. In Russia, Carling beer is produced by the Moscow Brewing Company under the control of Molson Coors.
Historical information
The history of the Carling brand began in 1818 when a Yorkshire farmer, Thomas Carling, opened a small brewery in the Canadian city of London, Ontario. Only six workers brewed ale at the enterprise, and the owner sold the drink on the streets from a mobile cart. Production gradually expanded, and in 1878 the sons of Carling built a six-story factory in the city center.
The company was named W & J Carling Brewing Co., but did not remain family owned for long. After the death of the first owner in 1911, the descendants sold the brewery, and after that it changed owners more than once. In the early 50s, Carling beer appeared in the UK, and by 1980 the brand had come out on top in sales in the country.
The brand is now owned by Molson Coors Brewing. For a long time, Carling beer occupied a leading position in terms of sales in the pubs of the country, but since 2009 it has been seriously supplanted by Carlsberg products. About 48 billion liters of the brand’s products are sold annually around the world. The company is a sponsor of the English football Premier League.
