Carcelli (Карчелли)

Many sambuca fans are sure that they know all the best brands of their favorite drink. But the Carcelli sambuca, which has recently appeared on the market, can pleasantly surprise even the most biased expert. It could not be otherwise: after all, Carcelli is the result of cooperation between two reputable European companies known for the high quality of their products.

Historical reference. The English company James Burroughs Ltd was founded in 1837. It was James Burrow who created the famous Beefeater gin, which is still produced today.

The Burrow family owned the business for 150 years. In 1969, university graduate Christopher Heyman, great-grandson of the company’s founder, took over as a distiller. At that time, the company prospered, production volumes were constantly increasing, every year more than 9 million bottles of gin were exported to the USA alone. It seemed like it would always be like this.

But in the 80s, the US government imposed trade sanctions and completely banned the import of English gin. James Burroughs Ltd suffered huge losses and was put up for auction in 1987.

The only person who did not accept the collapse of the family empire was Christopher Heyman. He bought out one of the divisions of the company, engaged in the production of high-quality alcohol, and named the new company Hayman Distillers.

Mr. Hayman’s assets included unique family recipes created by four generations of the best English distillers, and his liabilities were capricious fashion, which suddenly began to consider gin an old-fashioned drink, and demand for it decreased significantly. Realizing that narrow specialization is the shortest path to new bankruptcy, Heyman created a subsidiary of Burlington Drinks to produce spirits: vodka, whiskey, rum, tequila.

At the beginning of the XNUMXst century, Heyman also thought about the production of sambuca. An experienced distiller is quite conservative. He would never consider a gin not made in England worthy of attention, and in the same way, a real sambuca could only be Italian. For cooperation, it was necessary to find an enterprise no less solid than Hayman Distillers.

The choice fell on the Italian family firm Distillerie Sari srl It was founded in 1949 and is located in Gussago, a small commune in the province of Brescia, known for its wine-making traditions. The company has its own experimental workshop and department for the creation of new spirits.

What Mr. Heyman liked the most was that the Sari factory did not use any artificial flavors. Although natural raw materials are more expensive, the company produces only high-quality alcohol. The enterprise is fully automated and can produce up to 200 bottles of alcohol per day.

In 2011, Distillerie Sari, commissioned by Hayman Distillers, created a new sambuca called Carcelli. They were guided by the predilections of the British, who traditionally add ginger to many drinks. Therefore, Carcelli anise liqueur has a spicy flavor.

Types of Sambuca Carcelli

2 varieties of Carcelli sambuca are produced:

Carcelli Sambuca – a colorless transparent liquor with a strength of 38% with an anise-spicy silky taste and a long warm aftertaste;

Carcelli Black – almost black sambuca with a strength of 35%. The drink additionally contains licorice root extract, which gives the liquor a light licorice flavor.
