Canadian red maple tree
The Canadian maple is a fruitless tree. It is grown not only in the park, but also on its own plot. The tree is picky to care for, it stays firm in the cold. Let’s see how to grow it.
How to Plant Canadian Red Maple
A tree is planted from seeds or cuttings. For a tree to grow beautifully, you need to carefully choose the planting site. Maple loves warmth and light, so you need to plant it in a sunny area. The first years after planting, it will have to be slightly covered from the scorching sun.
Prepare the planting pit as follows:
- Dig it up a few weeks before planting the seedling – the ground should be settled. The size of the pit is 70 * 50 cm.
- Fill it with earth combined with humus.
- Make the distance between the trees 1-2 m.
- Add peat or humus to the excavated soil.
Depending on the type of maple, the filling of the pit can be different. Buy seedlings from the nursery. There should be no defects on the root, the leaves should not be dry.
Submerge the seedling in the hole so that the collar of the root is flush with the ground. When you plant a tree and water it, the ground will settle by 20 cm.
When grown from seeds, lionfish are the planting material – you will find them under the tree. These are wings with a seed inside.
If you want to grow a maple tree from seeds, follow this scheme:
- Place the planting material in a container filled with wet sand. Leave it on for 3 months.
- Make the planting hole the same as for the seedlings.
- In April, plant the seeds in the soil – wings up.
Can be planted in autumn, closer to the first frost.
How to care for a Canadian maple tree
A planted maple tree should be taken care of immediately. Since its roots have not yet taken root, protect it from direct sunlight. If the weather is hot, water the seedling once a week.
There is nothing difficult in leaving. Do the following:
- Water regularly. In spring and autumn, it is enough to water once a month – 20 liters of water under each tree. If the seedling is young, double the serving.
- Loosen the soil after each watering.
- Remove weeds under and near the tree.
- Feed once a year with potassium salt or urea. This is not necessary in the first year after planting.
- Prune dry or damaged branches.
If you planted a maple tree to decorate the site, you need to give the crown of the tree the desired shape, periodically trimming it.
Remember that maple multiplies quickly. Therefore, plant it in an area where you do not plan to grow anything.
If you do everything right, the tree will delight you with its beauty.
