Canada: Thrombosis in two people vaccinated with AstraZeneka. Within a week

In a published statement, the ministry revealed that a person who developed symptoms of thrombosis lives in the province of Alberta, is under treatment and improving.

“Based on the available source material, Canada still believes that the benefits of AstraZeneca outweigh the potential risks,” the statement said. It was emphasized that cases of thrombosis following the use of this vaccine “are extremely rare”.

The ministry said Canada’s health authorities “will continue to closely monitor the use of all Covid-19 vaccines and evaluate any new safety concerns.”

The first case of AstraZeneka-related thrombosis symptoms was reported on Tuesday.

An independent team of advisers had previously recommended that the vaccine be discontinued for people under 55 years of age. This recommendation is currently under examination.

Canada has recently sped up its vaccination campaign, but still has a lower percentage of vaccinated than many other countries, including the US and the UK.
