A new variant of COVID-19 called BA.5 is discovering its new face. This one of the most infectious mutations is not only responsible for the summer waves of infection around the world. According to doctors, this sub-variant of Omikron can re-infect patients within a few weeks of recovery.
- If we have been infected with the new Omikron sub-variant and we are healers, it does not mean that we are safe
- The new mutation could reinfect us just weeks after we’ve recovered from COVID-19
- Doctors around the world are seeing positive COVID-19 test results in patients who have recently recovered from the virus. “We are not well protected against further infections,” warn medics

Infection with Omikron weakly strengthens the resistance to further infections with this strain
The BA.5 sub-variant, which is currently the dominant strain in the world, is of increasing concern. Previously, convalescents had such a high level of immunity in the months following infection that they could “rest” from fear of re-infection. Now, however, this psychological comfort will end.
Andrew Roberston, Australian chief health officer (public health official) told news.com.au: “We are seeing an increasing number of people infected with BA.2 who are sick again after just four weeks. If we develop another infection within a few weeks, it is almost certainly a sub-variant BA.4 or BA.5 ».
A similar opinion was expressed by prof. immunology, Danny Altmann, author of an article on this strain, who wrote in The Guardian that Omicron infections weakly strengthen immunity to subsequent infections with this strain. “Most people – even after triple vaccination – had 20 times less neutralizing antibody responses against Omicron than against the original Wuhan strain,” he warned.

There are more and more puzzles in BA.5. What do we know about the new sub-variants?
The current summer COVID-19 wave is being driven by Omikron virus sub-variants BA.4 and BA.5. They are responsible for numerous diseases outside the fall-winter season, which we observe despite the warm summer and high temperature.
The previous Omikron sub-variants were distinguished by the fact that patients rarely lost their sense of smell or taste. With BA.5, this trend was reversed and again patients report odor and taste disturbances. They also suffer from severe headaches and throat aches.
Scientists have been suggesting for some time that new variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 spread more easily and become more resistant to vaccines. Due to the exceptionally high transmissivity of the BA.5 sub-variant, experts warn that the risk of infection may also be present in crowded outdoor areas.
The bad news doesn’t stop there. SARS-CoV-2 may produce further mutations that will carry even more of the virus’s genetic material. The more so because, according to studies, people who contracted COVID-19 after vaccination, or even after a booster dose, continue to secrete it.
Health experts warn that the number of infections is likely to increase again in the fall and winter, and by the end of the year we can expect another wave of illnesses and the emergence of more mutations.
