🙂 Welcome new and regular readers! Everyone is familiar with the situation when, on the eve of an Orthodox holiday, relatives or friends warned you: “You can’t work tomorrow. It is a sin”. Let’s see if it is possible to work on church holidays?
Among the variety of celebrations and professional holidays, involving noisy festivities and parades, the church ones keep aloof, calling for restraint, obedience, and humility.
Often, Orthodox holidays are overgrown with legends and incomprehensible signs. This is largely due to different perceptions of the world and unequal level of spirituality.
Is it possible to work on Orthodox holidays
Spiritual traditions have been created for more than one hundred years and over time they began to be interpreted in different ways. Although most clergy will say that it is never a sin to work, many parishioners who are ready to listen to the speeches of a minister of the church will question this dogma.
Church holidays suggest that believers on this day will find time for more fervent prayer. On this day, they will be able to sit in silence, in contemplation of themselves. They will be able to analyze the past stage, formulate a program for the future.
Such work on oneself can give real results. Such solitude takes time. This is the essence of refusing to work in favor of prayer. If the holiday is perceived as an excuse for refusing to work, for the purpose of simple idleness, the whole meaning of the Christian concept is lost.
Before starting work on a bright holiday, it is worth asking the question: “Didn’t I really have time yesterday? Will I really not have time tomorrow to carry out my work plans? ” It turns out that the matter is in self-organization.
But if indeed, during the first months of spring there were few good warm days, and Easter cleared up, spending 5-6 hours in the garden will not be a sin. After all, everyone knows that often one day feeds a year.
God wants people to work: repairing their houses, cleaning apartments, cultivating the land, raising livestock. If, for objective reasons, you have to do this on holidays, there will be no sin.
For example: if the children visited their elderly parents on Easter, who find it difficult to manage the household, and decided to put them in order. This is a good thing.
You also need to understand that intense prayer on a Bright Day is a big and hard work. God does not call us to do nothing. On the contrary, by working on ourselves, our consciousness, development, improvement – we purify ourselves, become more sincere.
This is what the Christian faith calls us to do. You can work not only with your hands and feet. Working on your own thoughts, on your heart – this is what you should strive for on an Orthodox holiday.
