Can I put powder in the drum of a washing machine? 6 useful tips

Do not know if it is possible to pour powder into the drum of a washing machine? First of all, it is worth considering that the manufacturer knowingly developed a powder receiver (cuvettes), otherwise this compartment simply did not exist structurally. But still, if you are uncomfortable using it, you still need to figure out whether or not you can pour the product directly into the drum.

We add that on the network, many experienced users “do not worry” about this issue and advise pouring the powder directly into the drum, although it will be written in black and white in any instruction manual that this is categorically not recommended. Who is right and who to listen to?

What is the danger and why not?

If a washing machine manufacturer insists that the powder be sent to a container for it, there is a reason for this.

We will immediately justify the owners of built-in SMAs – often after installing the machine in the headset, access to the dispenser is limited and there is no other way out but to throw “chemistry” into the machine in an unnatural way.

If the headset door does not open at least 90 degrees, it is difficult to open the tray

First, let’s figure out what happens in the dispenser. After starting the wash, the first thing you can hear is the sound of water at the top of the machine. This water is pumped into the cuvette under pressure. There she dissolves the powder and takes it, sending it to the drum. The solid powder structure dissolves in this short time and, together with the foam formed under the pressure of water, is fed directly to the place of the “incident” – to the laundry.

Therefore, for the machine there is not much difference where you are going to put the product – in a cuvette or on clothes. And here for your clothes, this wash may be the last – a large granule, without dissolving, can put a stain on your favorite blouse. And if there are bleaches or other aggressive agents in the composition, stains may also form. In the case of proper loading, this will not happen – a uniformly dissolved liquid will take care of the clothes.

This is what stains from colored granules look like

If you are thinking about where to pour the granules, for reasons of washing quality, you can send it to the machine in a special ball with holes. It can be a homemade jar or capsule. There will be no contact with the detergent, and the clothes will not be damaged.

Observe the measure and dosage

If the reason for your desire to pour the powder into the drum lies in the fact that it does not get out of the cuvette, then the matter is in the dosage. No need to try to fill the container to the top – follow the instructions on the package and accurately measure the right amount of the mixture using a measuring spoon or glass.

If for some reason you cannot remember the dosage, it is incomprehensibly written on the pack, and so on, then use the universal formula.

Formula: for 1 kg of laundry 1 tbsp. l. facilities.

Observing even approximately this proportion and periodically washing the powder receiver, you will avoid situations with its blockage and wash your clothes with high quality.

Helpful Tips for Using the Detergent Tray

Usually there are no problems with which compartment to load the “chemistry” into. In standard CMA designs, the compartment is located at the top left, and in vertical machines it is on the side or on the inside of the door. But there are machines with not quite standard trays, which you can look at for a long time and guess where, for example, to fill in liquid rinse aid or bleach.

So here are some tips for beginners:

  • All compartments are numbered. Usually these are I (prewash), II (main wash) and * (compartment for fabric softener or rinse aid).
  • If you are used to pouring dry powder and something remains in the cuvette, wash or wipe it after each wash.
  • Liquid detergent is softer, so it is the only thing that you can pour into the drum directly to the laundry without consequences. This applies to environmentally friendly liquids with a good composition. We do not recommend pouring aggressive “chemistry” on things.
  • If you do not fill the liquid into a cuvette, then always put the laundry in the machine first, otherwise the expensive liquid will spill through the holes of the drum directly into the tank.
  • If you want to send “chemistry” along with your clothes, pay attention to capsules – not new, but not yet popular household chemicals, which combine detergent, bleach, and air conditioner. Abandoned and forgotten. Among the shortcomings – the cost often bites.

Most often in stores there are capsules Tide and Ariel

  • If you have a semi-automatic machine, then you can safely send any “chemistry” to the washing department.

In activator washing machines, there is usually no compartment for “chemistry”

In general, we have not found an unequivocal answer: it is recommended to pour dry powders strictly into the powder receiver, and you can already experiment with liquids – this is the conclusion of the experts. In any case, you should not take risks in the first year of the washer’s life – if a breakdown occurs during the warranty period and the service finds out that you did not follow the instructions, they may refuse to provide free warranty repairs.
