Does a scar preclude getting a tattoo? Can such a place be problematic? Will a fully healed scar prevent a tattoo? Is it a good idea to get a tattoo on a scar? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Can scars be tattooed?
Hello. I am 42 years old and have a tattoo question. A few years ago I underwent a major operation, namely a hysterectomy, which is total hysterectomy together with appendages, it was a very important moment in my life, which affected not only my physicality, but also my psyche, I was treated for depression, I am on hormone replacement therapy, I have physically recovered, I am under the constant care of a gynecologist In fact, after the surgery, from the physical point of view, I only have a scar, it is a long, medium-thick scar at the lower abdomen.
I would like to symbolically end this stage in my life with a tattoo. After my first visit to the tattoo studio, where I chose the pattern, I would love to get a tattoo on the scar, but I’m afraid it may be problematic because the scar is raised.
Can a scar be tattooed? I do not have any changes, the scar is of course completely healed, but as I mentioned earlier, it is not flat along its entire length, it is convex in two places, so I wonder if the tattoo on the scar is a good idea. I am asking for a reliable hint.
The doctor advises whether it is worth getting a tattoo on the scar
Ladies and Gentlemen, I cannot answer the question of whether a tattoo on a scar is a good idea. The decision is entirely yours. It is possible to make a tattoo, especially if the scar is even and small. However, you should bear in mind that the dye may be improperly absorbed, so the tattoo may not look as intended in the place of the scar.
It was assumed that one should wait at least two years after the surgery for execution tattoo on the site of the scar. It is related to the long period of healing and stabilization of the scar. As for the procedure of making the tattoo in the place of the scar, please contact the tattoo studio employee. For medical reasons, tattoos are contraindicated in people prone to keloid formation, i.e. large and thick scars.

They should also not be performed in pathologically changed areas. Please remember that getting a tattoo is also associated with potential HIV or HCV infection. It is also possible an allergic reaction to the introduced dye and the development of lichen planus at the site of the tattoo. Before getting a tattoo, I suggest that you consult a dermatologist who will assess the scar and the skin around it.

A way to reduce the visibility of scars are also silicone scar patches, available in various sizes.
