Can a man get pregnant?

Scott Murr and his husband Thomas have been married for several years. The couple met in a transgender support group. Both of them used to be women, however, they soon realized that nature was wrong in their case.

Since childhood, Scott began to ask his parents to help him change his gender, and at the age of 15 he underwent breast removal surgery, after which he was allowed to take male hormones. However, Scott’s reproductive organs remained female.

Last summer, Scott and Thomas decided to have a child together. Scott got pregnant with donated sperm.

“We know that there will be people who will criticize us, but we are serenely happy and not at all ashamed of it,” the parents-to-be said. Thomas already has two children from his first marriage: 12-year-old Greg and 10-year-old Logan.

The first man who was able to independently bear and give birth to a child was the American Thomas Beaty in 2008. His wife could not give birth, so he took this responsibility upon himself.

Scientists are quite negative about this kind of jokes with nature. In their opinion, a man who carried and gave birth to a child may remain disabled after childbirth. In addition, such experiments can negatively affect the child: the sex hormone testosterone, produced by the body of a pregnant man, can have a pronounced effect on the subsequent formation of the sexual self-identification of future girls, and an artificial excess of female sex hormones can affect the self-identification of future boys.

Modern medicine has made great strides in the field of human reproduction. Singer Madonna is no longer afraid to become a mother again at the age at which many become grandmothers.
