Can a child stay in an air-conditioned room? There is a condition

Poland is struggling with a heatwave. When the heat is pouring down from the sky, air conditioning seems to be a real godsend. On the other hand, there is a lot of talk about the side effects of “climate”, i.e. risk of catching a cold. This, in turn, fuels the concerns of parents who often ask if air conditioning can harm their baby? The answer is no, but there is a condition.

  1. It is worth knowing that strong heat can take its toll on a child. Children are exposed to its disastrous effects much more than adults
  2. Experts say that in a cooled room, it is easier for a child to fall asleep and breathe
  3. However, there is an important thing that parents must keep in mind if there is a child and an air conditioner in the house

Heat, air conditioning and children

As BabyCenter, a platform for educating current and future parents, notes, “most doctors agree that it is safer to use air conditioning than to let a baby stay in a hot and humid environment”. It is important to remember that young children, especially newborns, cannot regulate their body temperature as well as adults. This makes them prone to overheating and other heat-related problems: dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

The child’s health is a priority for parents. Each of them would like to protect their child from falling ill, but sometimes it is not possible. Be sure to check the health of your child. The Healthy Child research package available on Medonet Market will help you with this.

“Some experts say that properly cooled and ventilated helps your baby sleep and reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome,” reports BabyCenter.

On the other hand, a room that is too cold can significantly reduce the temperature of a child’s body. In a word, air conditioning can be safe for your baby, provided you take a few precautions.

Air conditioning safe for the child. Some important rules

Maintain a comfortable temperature in the room for the baby. “Our pediatrician, Dr. Saroja Balan, recommends keeping the range from 23 to 26 degrees C,” reports BabyCenter.

Do not expose your child to the blast of cold air from the air conditioner.

Avoid sudden changes in temperature – when the child has been in an air-conditioned room, do not suddenly go outside with him. Instead, turn off the air conditioning and give your baby time to get used to the warmer temperatures.

Also use the air conditioning in the car with caution. In hot weather, it should be at least 22-25 degrees Celsius in the car. When setting the air conditioning, it is also worth remembering that the temperature difference between the car and outside should not exceed 10 degrees Celsius.

Keep your baby hydrated and keep his skin moisturized (being in an air-conditioned room may dry it). As BabyCenter notes, some mums also recommend keeping a bowl of water in the room (this is to help keep the air in the room more humid).

We cannot forget about regularly servicing the air conditioner – thanks to this you will be sure that you and your child breathe clean air.
