Can a blood test or DNA test show autism?

The only basis for a diagnosis of autism is a detailed examination carried out by a team of specialists (usually a psychiatrist, psychologist and pedagogue). The diagnosis is made on the basis of a detailed interview with the parents / guardians about the current development of a child with suspected autism, observation of the child’s behavior (sometimes several times), and a psychiatric and psychological examination.

There are currently no medical tests to detect autism. Genetic and metabolic tests, other blood tests, EEG, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging do not answer the question of whether a person has autism or other pervasive developmental disorders. However, these tests can detect or rule out other health problems that may coexist with autism and are important in differential diagnosis.
