Calpol 80, -125 is used in case of fever, incl. in the course of colds or flu and pains of various origins. This preparation is a non-opioid drug with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. The active substance is paracetamol. The drug is in the form of rectal suppositories intended for children and is available without a prescription.

Calpol 80, -125 are rectal suppositories used:
- in colds,
- in flu,
- in pains of various origins.
Drug dosage
Calpol 80, -125 is in the form of suppositories intended for rectal use.
- Once rectally. 10-15 mg / kg body weight.
- Typically in infants 3-12 years old. month of life. 1 suppository 80 mg every 4-6 h, max. 30 mg / kg b.w./d.
- Children 1-6. from the age of 1-2 suppositories 125 mg every 4-6 h, max. 500 mg / day.
Calpol 80, -125 and contraindications
There are the following contraindications to the use of Calpol 80, -125:
- allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
- severe liver or kidney failure.
Calpol 80, -125 – warnings about the drug
- Two paracetamol preparations should not be used simultaneously due to the risk of overdose.
- Do not exceed the recommended dose of the drug as liver damage may occur.
- Calpol 80, -125 should not be used for more than 3 days without a doctor’s recommendation.
- If you have no results after the day of taking the suppositories, please consult your doctor.
- Patients allergic to acetylsalicylic acid derivatives should be careful due to the risk of an allergic reaction.
- People with hepatic and / or renal insufficiency; Dehydrated or malnourished patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency should be treated with caution.
- The risk of liver damage during treatment with the drug occurs especially in fasting people.
- Calpol 80, -125 is intended for use only by children.
Calpol 80, -125 with other drugs
- The paracetamol contained in Calpol 80, -125 enhances the work of anticoagulants from the group of coumarin and indandion derivatives.
- Paracetamol is eliminated for longer due to salicylamide.
- Do not take Calopol 80, -125 with MAO inhibitors and within 2 weeks of completing treatment with these preparations, because high temperature and agitation may occur.
- Taking preparations that increase hepatic metabolism: rifampicin, anti-epileptics (phenytoin, carbamazepine), sleeping pills (barbiturates) may lead to liver damage, despite taking the recommended doses of paracetamol.
- Concomitant administration of paracetamol and NSAIDs (e.g. acetylsalicylic acid) causes renal dysfunction.
- Taking caffeine enhances the analgesic effect of paracetamol, while paracetamol enhances the effect of caffeine.
- Taking this medicine may have an influence on the results of laboratory tests, e.g. blood glucose tests.
Calpol 80, -125 – side effects
Taking Calpol 80, -125 rectal suppositories may rarely cause the following side effects:
- bad mood,
- lowering blood pressure,
- allergic reactions (itching, urticaria, rash, erythema, angioedema, asthma attack),
- increased heart rate
- nausea, vomiting
- diarrhea,
- impaired liver and kidney function (up to kidney and liver failure),
- increased levels of liver transaminases,
- thrombocytopenia,
- leukopenia,
- neutropenia,
- methaemoglobinaemia (loss of the ability of hemoglobin to transport oxygen).
In the event of itching, rash, erythema or vomiting, discontinue the treatment and consult a doctor immediately.
