Calluses usually form on the feet. They can cause pain that makes it difficult to walk. However, we can prevent them from occurring. What to do to avoid calluses on the feet and also on the hands? Can they be removed at home. We analyze natural methods and check what professional help in the treatment of calluses looks like.
Calluses are corns that can appear on the feet or hands. They are soft to the touch and have a yellowish color. They may be surrounded by reddened skin. Most often they are located on the sole of the feet.
The problem of calluses usually affects women who often wear high-heeled shoes, but this is not the only cause of their formation. Calluses can make it difficult to move around and ignoring them can lead to inflammation.
Calluses and corns are often confused. Although they belong to the prints, they differ in form and shape. Calluses are more likely to appear on the soles of the feet due to the pressure of the foot on a hard surface.
They are much larger than the corns that are located in the vicinity of the fingers. Their appearance is accompanied by a sharp pain caused by pressing the core on the nerves of the skin.
Calluses – causes of formation
The main causes of calluses include not only walking in high-heeled shoes, but also:
- walking in too tight or too large shoes;
- walking in shoes without socks;
- flat feet;
- calcaneal spur;
- walking in shoes with a very thin sole;
- rheumatoid arthritis;
- too frequent abrasion of the epidermis on the sole of the foot;
- diabetes;
- obesity;
- hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism;
- cardiovascular disease;
- walking barefoot on a hard surface.
If the calluses are due to problems with alignment of the little toe, you can use the Little Toe Wedge with a Corn Cover to improve walking comfort and to prevent corns or irritation.
Calluses – home remedies for removal
Home remedies for removing calluses can only be used when the corns are small. In this case, it is enough to soak the feet in warm water with the addition of baking soda, and then remove the soaked calluses with a pumice stone.
Order Tadé Pays du Levant Pumice Stone or Aleppo Soap Co. Natural Pumice Stone today. by Tadé, which in a gentle but effective way support the removal of thickened epidermis and nourish the tissue.
After drying with a towel, massage a large amount of moisturizing cream into the skin. Salicylic acid patches available at the pharmacy will also help with small calluses and corns. A chamomile bath is another way to get rid of small girth calluses.
Calluses – professional help
Calluses that have been neglected and that cause pain when walking should not be removed at home. It is best to visit a podiatrist, surgeon or pedicurist. The surgery in the office is painless. The specialist uses a milling machine or a chisel with a hollow drill bit. After the procedure to remove the callus or corn, a small hole may appear on the foot. It should be sealed with a plaster to prevent infection. For this purpose, it is worth ordering a Waterproof plaster for corns, abrasions and blisters, which is invisible and perfectly adheres to the skin, or a Plaster for corns and abrasions with a protective foam, which is soft and protects damaged skin.

Calluses, corns and corns will not arise if we stick to certain rules:
- footwear should be soft, preferably made of soft leather;
- gloves should always be worn during heavy physical work;
- it is worth creaming your feet every day to keep the skin moisturized;
- it is worth avoiding tights with a thick seam, so that friction does not occur;
- It is worth taking care of your feet and hands throughout the year – this aspect especially applies to the skin on the feet, which many people care for only in the summer.
To reduce the risk of the appearance of calluses, you can use metatarsal gel pads – especially if you experience additional pain in the metatarsus while walking.
