Calla flower care indoor

Indoor calla is a decorative flowering houseplant. Its flowers are yellow, orange, red, pink and white. In order for a plant to bloom, it must be properly cared for.

There are two varieties of this flower: tuberous and rhizome (Ethiopian). The former has a variety of shades, while the latter is only white.

You can create bouquets from indoor calla flowers

Flower description:

  • Plants are 50-100 cm tall. The tallest are Ethiopian calla lilies. They have white flowers. Multicolored hybrids are undersized.
  • The leaves are wide, bright green, the ends are sharp. The leaf plates resemble arrows. The leaves have white or silvery blotches.
  • Flowers are tubular, 1,2-1,4 cm in diameter. They form on a leafless stem. They consist of a cob and a bedspread. The color of the bedspread depends on the type of calla lily. Flowering occurs in late spring, summer.

In winter, the plants rest, they do not bloom.

If you create favorable conditions for the plant, then you will not have problems with growing it.

Tuber calla does not like frequent and abundant watering, since the root system can fester. It grows normally at low air humidity and does not need to be sprayed. After watering, you must drain the water from the sump. Rhizome calla loves abundant and frequent watering and spraying.

Plant conditions:

  • The flower loves bright light, but can grow in partial shade. He needs 6 hours of sunlight a day, preferably in the morning or evening.
  • To grow calla lilies, prepare the soil, which consists of garden soil, peat, rotted manure and sand in equal proportions. The acidity of the soil is not higher than 6.
  • Calla is a thermophilic plant. The optimum air temperature is 20-25˚С, with indicators below 8˚С it will die. A flower can be displayed on the balcony only in summer.
  • Water when the soil surface dries. Callas do not like drought and waterlogging.
  • In the fall, feed the flower with nitrogen fertilizers. Be sure to remove all root processes, they only take strength from the mother bush. When the buds appear, add phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. All the time, while there are flowers, feed the calla lilies once a week with mineral fertilizers.

If your plant is not in bloom, there is little potting space for it. The container must be more than 20 cm in diameter.

Calla looks neat and elegant. Every florist can grow it, the main thing is to follow all the recommendations.
